Most Republicans Think 'Obama's Hiding Something'

And over a third of all Americans agree, according to a new poll

Around two thirds of Republicans – and over one third of Americans – think Obama is "hiding important information about his background and early life."

That's according to a new survey from Fairleigh Dickinson University reported in Politico. 64% of Republicans believe the POTUS is hiding something, and that opinion is shared by 34% of Americans generally. Even 14% of Democrats believe the president has a skeleton in his closet.

What exactly do folks think the POTUS is hiding? The most popular theory concerns Obama's birthplace, an idea that's been well-ventilated by Donald Trump and others. Even the president jokes about this one – he's been known to give an exaggerated wink when referring to his birthplace as Hawaii (see photo).

In addition, 19% think Obama practiced voter fraud in the 2012 election.

The study found that belief in such theories correlated with lower levels of education and political knowledge. The more educated you are, the less likely you are to think Obama is hiding anything. However, among Republicans, those with more political awareness were more likely to believe in Obama's dark secret.

The poll result fits with several internet memes that are popular on the right. Obama is often referred to as "the most secretive president in history," and the idea that "he wasn't properly vetted" has been a classic of the conservative internet since the POTUS took office.

    Liberals want to piss off America. Me? I just want a united America, an America where nobody is pissed. I want a place where we all work together to accomplish the same goals. This country used to stand for low taxes, modest regulations, individual freedom, and personal accountability -- with a healthy dose of Christianity sprinkled into the mix. Now it's all about this group or that group, and catering a set of lies to keep this special interest in check and that special interest continuing to vote for you.

    When will you liberals get over it? Yes, there are white people in the world. They work, they pay taxes, and they contribute to this country. Enough trying purposefully to piss them off!

    I think he's being a typical politician and not doing the work of the people. Just like both parties. You don't get to be President and have a billion dollars for re-election or even get your party's nomination without being bought and paid for. Both parties are corrupt to the core. Re-elect NOBODY 2014

    Again, no proper choice for moderates. How about "Sure. Aren't all politicians hiding something?"

Republicans with more political awareness don't necessarily believe Obama has a dark secret, but they certainly know how to get many of the rest of us to believe it. There IS a difference.

    I think he is hiding his college enterance requirements.. I think any congress person should ask him about it. The questions should be , did he apply as a citizen or a foreign imigrant student? As a imigrant his costs were reduced drimaticly But , as a citizen his costs would be tremendusly high.

    Lol, Obama is 'hiding something', but when the last administration was full of oil guys, natural gas guys, and haliburton guys these same people NEVER questioned why we would choose to go to war w/ a country we don't care about and then put bases near or on oil and natural gas fields. They were criminals using the govt as their own personal military and atm, and didn't even try to hide it... but Obama is the one 'hiding something'... give me a break.

    The point is, the Republicans were were silent when there was a truly criminal administration in the White House. The Right only cares that there is one of their own in the Oval Office, they don't care about integrity.

    I surely don't disagree the past administration was corrupt . But that was the past and they were born on US soil and have the right to run for office. But Saddam Hussein Obama has no proof he was born here and is only a puppet for George Soros slowly but surely crippling our country

    HMMM.....something in this math just don't add up. 64%(Repubs)+ 14%(Dems)= 34%...a lot more "other" parties in America then I knew of or Politix is using the new math!!

    Early in Obama's first term when he was proposing the stimulus spending I did read something about the republicans being upset by the size of his package.

I say the top 4 , plus , his college records , who payed his tuition , room & board thru 3 colleges , Annenburg , his long , long list of associates linked to either domestic terrorism , communism or other anti -American activities , Rezko , his racist Pastor of 20 years, his 'uncle' Frank Marshall Davis, his involvement as a Senator in Kenyan politics involving his cousin & sharia law elections & last but not least - was Larry Sinclair really an extra close friend ? Other than that , barry hussein is just a really, swell guy for a marxist loving, mooslem dude that wants to bring America to it's knees.

    See, we have to get past all the theatrics and get to rational management.
    The people who hate and fear Obama really focus on him as the symbol of what they really fear, and that's change.
    Not just change, but the rate of change. An ever accelerating rate. They are overwhelmed.
    Nobody has any real security any more, physical or financial.
    They feel threatened, and they want things to get back to normal.
    You can condemn it if you want, but in truth it's just part of human nature that some of us are that way.
    So whatever plan you propose to deal with anything, it has to take these people into account or it's not likely to be successful.

    But back to the original question, "Is the Pres hiding something?"
    The obvious answer is yes, after all, he's got the keys to Area 51......

    @harold_lloyd keys to area 51? I'll let it pass, alien theories are a smoke screen. Area 51 was used to test top secret aircraft for the military, a research facility, the ufo's they saw were strange proto type aircraft, that is all.

    To be fair....I think most politcians are hiding something....government....so why wouldn't he be doing what they do? To what degree is the real question and what specifically? I still think he is NOT forthcoming on his birth place for obvious reasons but I don't expect to know the truth on this anymore than we do about Roswell or JFK....

    If he is trying to hide his being a smoker and having smoked weed it was pretty stupid to write in his books.

    Seeing as the past two Republican were friends with the Bin Laden family I'm thinking Republicans don't have freedom of speech here.

    Last week you guys said he grew up Muslim. Next week he will have grown up Amish.

    It is obvious he is hiding everything (or many many things) as his actions show with his expensive cover up. Sorry but not a good question. The fact is he is in fact hiding something. So the question should be.... What is Obama hiding?
    You see when you go to great lengths to hide secrets you will have varied speculation.
