    @Food4thoughts The executive order of limiting a magazine capacity to 10 bullets. Where in the constitution do we give our government the right to regulate the amount of ammunition one can possess?
  • !
    @DanielMincin No they don't. The executive orders do not take a single gun out of the hands of anyone who is allowed legally to have a gun. Not a single one. You obviously have not read them.
  • !
    @DanielMincin

    1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background-check system.

    2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background-check system.

    3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background- check system.

    4. Direct the attorney general to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

    5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

    6. Publish a letter from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.

    7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

    8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

    9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.

    10. Release a Department of Justice report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.

    11. Nominate an ATF director.

    12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.

    13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.

    14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.

    15. Direct the attorney general to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun-safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.

    16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.

    17. Release a letter to healthcare providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

    18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.

    19. Develop model emergency-response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.

    20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.

    21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within Affordable Care Act exchanges.

    22. Commit to finalizing mental-health parity regulations.

    23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

    Not sure how "kookiness" describes a man who made it his goal to remind the crooks in DC of the document they owe their entire lifestyle and careers to.
  • !
    @PNWest Ah ok. I didn't realize we are holding everyone responsible for everything that happens around them and anything they've ever said in their entire lifetime. Because that really makes us all horrible people that shouldn't ever do anything right?
    Do you hold yourself accountable to anything you said 20 years ago? 10? 5?
    I never said he was a perfect man, I'd be a moron if I thought that. But of the complete LACK of politicians that really are looking out for US Citizens best interests, he was one of the best. His ideology was simple. It was written in black and white for all to read.
  • !
    @Fishbone345 I think it OK to hold RON PAUL responsible for things that RON PAUL publishes in a newsletter named DR. RON PAUL'S FREEDOM REPORT where the profits went to RON PAUL. At the time Dr. Paul was in his 40's, hardly young & naive.

    This is typical D.C. BS. Anything to keep from having to deal with the debt,. I mean, they do have quarter of a million dollar bathrooms to build but come on. You're going to spend time on common sense executive orders and let the raising the debt ceiling debate wait until you can panic the nation again, right? Rand Paul is an IDIOT.
  • !
    And Obama shifting media focus to gun control is somehow him NOT avoiding the debt crisis or slow economy?

    Rand Paul's message is that EOs should be limited to what the President has authority over, that is, the Executive branch. It cannot be be used to create new law nor to override existing laws, period.
  • !
    @jessejaymes OK, if you want to be obtuse, Paul was addressing the numerous threats from the White House about using EOs before yesterday's announcements.

    His statement obviously struck a chord with the White House, since, if you read a little closer, you'll realize none of the 23 points made was an Executive Order, they were all "Presidential Memoranda."
  • !
    @Annonn you are correct but do you know what the difference is between executive orders and presidential memoranda? According to congressional research service not much. Orders have to be published memos don't.
    As a matter of fact, the federal courts have used the two terms interchangeably.
  • !
    @Annonn Nonsense. Obama isn't even close to issuing the number of executive orders that bush did. this is what gets me about you right wingers. You don't demand anything from "your side" and you lie about the other side. Just like the liberals do. BOTH PARTIES ARE CORRUPT TO THE CORE. What are you doing about your side?

    so you like his override plan, because you dont like obama. please stop voting. you clearly only belive what people tell you to believe.

    @AndBegin

    YEA Wright!!!! When I vote I dont vote to have a King
    also I shall always support Mr. Paul, He goes by the Constitution.
    Not alisky's rules for radicals!!!
  • !
    That's a hell yes for me too. I just read Rand Paul's plan and it made perfect sense. All it does is to prevent Obama from initiating any legislation that goes against the constitution and without being contested by the Senate, State representatives, or any aggrieved party. In fact the government was set up originally with separate branches for the purpose of preventing a kingship.

    Here's an interesting fact. Of 43 presidents elected through the history of this country 42 can directly trace their family tree back to King John Plantagenet of England. Can you guess which one is the odd one out? Hint, it's not Obama. It was Van Buren if you're wondering. The 8th president and the first to be born an actual citizen. More funny things about him, english was his second language as he was raised dutch. Don't worry though, the people who select who we vote for made sure to get royals on the ticket after that slight 4 year hiccup. You think just because you don't know who your great great grandfather is that everyone else is clueless? I bet Queen Victoria knows exactly who her great great great great great great great great great great great grandfather is and the names of all his children and employs members of that family to keep track of it all.
    It is to laugh that people think this is all merely coincidence but a nutjob shooting up a school is an actual conspiracy.
    So, it's more like Duke Obama in a long line of Dukes stretching back to the very founding of the country. It's just you get the illusion of freewill in choosing which one to vote for. Want to trace back Romney's tree and see where it would have ended up. I bet you don't even really have to bother.

    When the King does not get his way or he knows the congress will not vote the way he wants he then writes an exectuve order. The executive orders are a tempeory fix. Not to be considered a law. It does not work that way. Sorry you fine folks who think the Kings. Words are hospital and snorting what ever color kool aid they are handing out this week.

    Not a big fan of Rand Paul But the bill will strengthen the original intent of the constitution and hopefully prevent the bushes & obamas from circumventing congress. The bill should apply to all amendments and all executive orders that infringe on the constitution.
  • !
    Kind of agree with you there. While I am probably the epitome of the title my fellow Politix friends have come up with (Paulbots), I'm not a huge fan of Rand's.
  • !
    @Fishbone345 Over the years I have found myself agreeing with Ron Paul on select issues. I have yet to find anything at all to agree with Rand Paul about. In a related note I have found myself in agreement with those who say he's the new leader of the Lunatic fringe.

    I'm wondering which executive order( technically presidential memoranda) actually infringes on anyone's right to own a gun?

    "It does not appear that any of the executive orders would have any impact on the guns people currently own-or would like to purchase and that all proposals regarding limiting the availability of assault weapons or large ammunition magazines will be proposed for congressional action. As such, any potential effort to create a constitutional crisis-or the leveling of charges that the White House has overstepped its authority- would have no validity."

    State sovereignty arguments are not the answer. We settled this in 1865 and my family's side lost. Work within in the system to find a common solution where no one gets all they want.
  • !
    Two questions: 1) How will his bill get passed the Senate? 2) If it did, wouldn't President Obama veto it which means all the work for nothing? Should they be working on the debt ceiling instead of wasting time on something that has not chance of over passing?
  • !
    60% of the American Public is against these executive orders...representatives have to vote for the people they represent if they want to win reelection.
  • !
    @Politicskid
    1) I highly doubt that 60% of Americans know what the executive orders. People here usually know more then the general public and it is clear a large number haven't read them.
    2) Would you please source your opinion poll claims? I googled and couldn't find a poll on it yet.
  • !
    That's right. The President would veto any such bill if it made it to his desk, which would require a two-thirds vote in each Chamber to override. Historically, Congress has overridden fewer than ten percent of all presidential vetoes, and there is certainly not enough opposition to override a veto of this sort of bill.
  • !
    @Cheenoguy I tell you what sport why don't you write a letter to Obama in crayon asking him the same question.

    He's a " constitutional scholar"

    and it seems hand written letters in crayon I'll put directly on his desk on top of the intelligent briefings
  • !
    @bsking
    In other words you know full well nothing has any bearing on the 2nd amendment. You just wanted to rant about President Blackenstein.
    Oh and I'm sure he feels worse about his Harvard law degree when he finds out that people on the fringes of society use quotation marks when referring to him as a "constitutional scholar".
  • !
    @OhWiseOne since you are the "wise one", please enlighten us all with your knowledge and wisdom on how Obama is rewriting the 2 nd amendment, stripping rights from every American and generally sidestepping the whole constitution thru the issuance of these 23 presidential memoranda.
  • !
    @OhWiseOne
    Well since many here think that their 2nd Amendment rights have been infringed upon by these executive orders it is clear they haven't read them.

    Yes oppose him, that what the branches of goverment are suppost to do. To make checks and balances so no one branch has to much power. Make things work slower but better.
