President Barack Obama took the oath of office for the second straight day, capping a round of carefully-orchestrated inaugural events. On the Capitol's West Front inaugural platform President Obama again pledged to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution."

A few minutes before, Vice President Joe Biden was ceremonially sworn in to his second term . Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor administered the Oath of Office.

Though there was no suspense to the inaugural, observers across the political divide hailed the event as a testament to American democracy.

Tweeted IA GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley (@ChuckGrassley): "Mall is filled thousands as far as u can see".

But Inauguration Day wasn't free of partisan rancor. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Mitt Romney's 2012 running mate, faced a chorus of boos as entered the inaugural platform, Huffington Post reported. Back in 2005, Sen. John Kerry (MA), the losing 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, also faced boos when he emerged at President George W. Bush's second inauguration.

    Jobs, jobs, jobs! Half our deficit is because we have high UE, more people using the social safety net, and less people paying in. Let's get these people back to work, first and foremost.

    and we will bring in another million or so to compete against unemployed citizens for new jobs on top of the millions he just gave a 2 year free ride to,which in turn will lead to more flooding in unstopped.

    until he steps up and puts citizens above all others this will continue.

    @tomincali Whether an illegal gets a job or a legal gets a job they contribute fairly equally to our demand driven economy. If the people are spending their money in the economy it will be increasing aggregate demand, which is the big problem of our current economy, lack of demand. So I'd argue that these people will have little, if any effect on the overall economy and think we should look at ways to get people back to work, not finding a scapegoat to blame.

    @AceLuby I sometimes wonder what state you live in. Illegals have overwhelmed and destroyed the California primary educations system. What was once the pride of the nation now ranks in the bottom half of the nation. My wife was a teacher, then a counselor and ultimately a Principal. She was half Chinese. She was very pro diversity. Our home for more than 20 years was a beehive of diversity. We had Cambodian kids try turkey for the first time (UGH!!) on Thanksgiving. We had walking candlelight vigils for slain kids by drivebys of both black and Latino. Under no circumstance could we be called right wingers.

    And yet my wife was most frustrated by the illegals and how little they value education. Most of them couldn't read or write in their own language. The families yank them out of school twice a year for a month each time to "go visit home". How do you teach Kids that aren't there? And how do you stop them from dropping out? How do you catch them up? Latinos drop out in California (at least until here recently when I stopped following it) more often than any other race. They have the largest number of gang members in California and remain the fastest growing number of gang members in the entire USA. Twenty years and more in America and most the adults who come here illegally can't speak English. I can speak Spanish. Taught myself in the same amount of time. About 6 years actually before I could carry on a somewhat coherent conversation in Spanish. They have destroyed our California school system despite our spending about as much per student as any state in the nation.

    We had the pride of the nation in our Truama Care system. 11 major hospitals statewide. Beautiful, state of the art, taxpayer paid system. The illegals destroyed that system. Today there is one. Even when they have jobs with medical they don't use it. that would require co-pays. It's easier (and certainly cheaper) to just go to an emergency and say "no English" and claim your name is Juan Rodriquez. And never pay a dime. Thousands of "Juan Rodriquez''s" Try and track them down.

    When California voted for Prop 187 cutting off all schooling and social services for illegals the vote was 63% in favor. 54% of legal Latinos voted in favor of it. That should tell you something.
    Like a right winger spews rhetoric about guns based on muzzle loaders and black powder, you liberal spew the same dated rhetoric about illegals not being a net drain on America. That may have been true 30 years ago. It is not true today. The second largest source of legal income in Mexico today is the the sending of money home by illegals in the USA. Has been for two decades. So when you claim they circulate money equal to what they take here in the USA that is old time rhetoric and is simply not true. Now I understand, that like a right wing talking about a "well regulated Militia" that you have your rheotric and you're not going to bend an inch on your pro illegal stance anymore than they are on guns. But you're wrong. As wrong as wrong gets.

    @jessejaymes I would love to see some statistics showing the dollar amounts of any of this to form my own opinion. I've heard lots of stories like your own, but never any solid evidence to back it up. I'm not saying there isn't a problem, because clearly it is in some parts of the country, I just haven't seen anything that shows that we should be tackling it as step #1. If you have those sources handy I'd love to read them.

    @AceLuby The states that are facing these problems are the Mexican border states of CA, AZ, NM, and TX. While illegals have infiltrated nearly every other state, these states have the highest concentrations of them. In a few years, CA's population will have a Hispanic majority.

    There is no lack of urgent issues facing the government, but I judge climate change to pose the most serious long term threat to civilization if not our species. Thanks to climate denialists, re-introducing this as a real issue is not going to be easy, but it is crucial.

    I have to agree with AceLuby! Way too many people living off the government and not paying into the system. Obama must abandon his anti-business attitude and get government out of the way of job creation. We do need more people working and contributing to the cost of government and then we need to stop this insane spending! Climate change (note, no longer called "warming") is way down on the bottom of the list of things that are important to America. Let's solve the spending and deficit before we start spending more money we don't have and destroying more jobs when we don't have enough people working as it is, before we worry about the ocean rising 1/4" in the next 50 years.

    Obama is not the problem, aggregate demand is the problem. If you want to focus on jobs you need to focus on the core problem of the issue, not what the GOP talking points are.

    @AceLuby Yeah, whatever, you Obamanites find an excuse for everything he's done wrong, no matter what, of course, that's when any blame is even assigned to him, BTW, who is he going to blame for the poor economy THIS time? Still Bush? If so, is Obama going to take ownership of the presidency this time around or is he just going to continue the campaign trail to try to make America a ONE party country? Not GOP Talking points sweetie, just cold hard facts. He IS anti-business, anti-success, anti-wealth, anti-pushing oneself to be the best and totally in favor of taking the money of the successful and passing it on to the hardly working. I assumed (and yeah, I know what happens when one assumes - my bad) you too understood that jobs was the problem and just why is jobs a problem? Hmmmm? Could it possibly be the anti-business stance of Obama? Could it be the almost 2 years of unemployment offered to non-workers by Obama? Or, as the libs. so love to natter on and on about, is it STILL Bush's fault? Pitiful if the left still believes that canard.

    @Tralee Please don't call me names, I have given you the courtesy of addressing your points w/out personal attacks, I would appreciate the same. Like I said before, the core issue that we have is lack of aggregate demand and that to solve our economic woes we have to look at ways in increasing the demand for goods and services. Now, if you would like to debate that point I am game, but if you simply want to regurgitate everything that has been fed to you while name calling you've picked the wrong person.

    Which will also drop the deficit dramatically. Cut the empire by 40% and invest it into a coast to coast high speed rail. It will pay for itself in a single year.

    President Obama's priority during his second term should be to work with republicans like Clinton did to reform entitlements and balance the budget.

    But we all know that what President Obama should do and what he will do are two very different things.

    It takes a measure of cooperation from the GOP for this to happen. I'm not hearing much from them to suggest they'll be any more reasonable this term than last.

    @DARSB I don't live in Kentucky, but I'm going to do all I can to get Ashley Judd in and Mitch McConnell out. That will definitely help to unlock the Senate.

    @DARSB-- And republicans aren't hearing much from democrats to suggest they'll be any more reasonable this term than last.

    Clinton demonstrated how to work with republicans who are dead set on getting spending under control. Since 2010, Obama has demonstrated and continues to demonstrate how to stonewall republicans who are dead set on getting spending under control.
