70% Support Roe v. Wade

Surprisingly, 70% of Americans believe Roe v. Wade should stand, according to a Wall Street Journal/NBC poll.

It's surprising because only 41% of Americans now call themselves pro-choice. But, as we learned last week, many Americans who call themselves pro-life support abortion in some cases. Only 9% of Americans think abortion should be illegal in every case, the WSJ poll found.

The new poll's figure - 70% - is the highest proportion of Americans ever to back Roe v. Wade, which turned 40 today.

Politix users are less supportive of Roe v. Wade than Americans in general. Only 61% of Politixers say they're against seeing the landmark ruling overturned.

    Taking away a woman's access to birth control is a great way to raise pregnancy and abortion rates. Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of breast cancer screenings Planned Parenthood does each year.

    @Zazziness You are free to fund it if it means that much to you. However, I have an equal right to CHOOSE not to. That means no funding from my tax dollars. Sex without consequences is NOT an entitlement.

    @Realthinker No, actually you do not get to choose where your taxes go. None of us do. They go to wars and welfare, road repair and schools -- you're part of a community. Don't like it? Change communities.

    There is NO right to abortion in the constitution....typical progressive liberal tactice to redefine and/or add words that aren't there as the numbers are skewed on this poll....

    Kinda makes the results questionable if they don't know what they are in favor for. "Roe vs Wade, doesnt that make it illegal to use dogs in baby food? I'm all for that!::check:: smh

    @AceLuby The flaw with that is as tax payers we aren't being allowed to live by our morals. We are being forced to fund yours against our will.

    Not to be rude towards any female politixers out there, but planed parenthood should get the heck outta here, nothing but wasteful money. This is America where we had to fight to keep what is ours, hard working people. Not girls who lay on their backs and allow men to release their wonder juices in them, then think "Oh well, planed parenthood will save me!". Its pathetic, abortion to me also should be illegal, I would understand if raped, mother is going to die, etcetc.

    @Mogal You are right and they need to start making BOTH responsible for life, no exceptions and that doesn not mean let the kids be raised in skuzzy ass living conditions. If your goin to have kids you need to learn to take GOOD care of them.

    It seems like yet another issue where the rightwing fringe continues to drift away from moderate Republicans. There are some who can't understand why it's wrong to ask the government to tell women they should remain celibate unless they want to reproduce. You can tell by the sneering judgment in their tone they view pregnancy as just "punishment" for sexuality, no matter how they prattle on about the sanctity of life.
    They can feel that way if they like and run their life accordingly but they are a poor group to make decisions for all of us, as a whole.

    Pay attention to this issue and not the assault on the Bill of Rights! What a grand distraction to keep peoples eyes off scandals and fake fiscal cliffs! If people are focusing on this and not civilians being denied Habeas Corpus, who knows what else our criminal government will be able to get away with!

    Women need to realize that they're being played into a distraction. This may be an important issue, but it's no where near as important as the absolute assault our unalienable rights are undergoing.

    Anyone who is focusing on this, is either ignorant of what else is going on, or selfish enough to think that this issue should hold a spotlight over our Bill of Rights which is currently being destroyed.

    While 70% support Roe (as I do) there is a reality in America that nobody talks about. We accept that it is a woman's right to choose. But we also know that the aborted fetus had formation, brain waves, a pulse and a heartbeat. Even accepting that abortion is legal and should stay legal I know many people other than myself who are uneasy with surgical abortion. This is why i do not support Planned Parenthood. They consistently and without cessation, see surgical abortion as the best solution to unprotected sex that results in pregnancy. I do not. The so called Morning after pill is safe, more than 99% effective and can be take for up to 10 days to 2 weeks depending on which study you believe. This pill removes a microscopic speck of tissue (i.e. a fertilized egg) that is invisible to the human eye, has no formation, brain wave, pulse or heartbeat. While a fetus, according to the left, is not a human, a fertilized egg is not a fetus. Not all fertilized eggs become a fetus.

    I find it ignorant, selfish and politically motivated for both the left and right to not compromise and co-support the morning after pill as the preferred method of termination of unwanted pregnancy. If both sides would stop their juvenile war on each other and support this pill we could cut surgical abortions by about 70% over 10 years while leaving the option for those who need it.

    In the 40 years since Roe V Wade was upheld by the Supreme court this world has changed. We did not have personal computers 40 years ago. No internet. No CD's, no DVD's. 40 years ago we didn't even have video stores or VHS movies to rent. No anti locking breaks, no GPS. 40 years ago you could still buy a new 8 track tape and Mini skirts were still outrageous. 40 years ago there was no Wendy's, no Subway, no Walmart Super stores. Surgical abortion is the dark ages compared to the morning after pill.

    It's time that termination of unwanted pregnancy moved into the 21st century. Please join me in advocating for the morning after pill.

    @jessejaymes Dude, you need to learn how to have a civil conversation. I'm trying to get clarification on your point because I like to see how other people's thought processes are, and all you can do is name call?

    If you have a problem w/ people trying to understand your viewpoint maybe a public forum isn't the right place for you...

    Liberals want to jump on the gun ban train when the innocent kids were killed at sandy hook , what about the innocent murders of un-born babies every day,

    I got an email from Rand Paul and signed his petition for Congress to determine when it is that life begins as that has not been established by them as yet. He is intending to establish that life begins at conception. With the advances in science available and his father being a doctor...i can't help but believe that he believes this can be shown. If it is it would make Roe vs. Wade null and void as every person by our Constitution has the right to LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

    Everyone is so concerned about the "rights" of the mother. What about the "rights" of the most innocent among us?

    abortion like so many things today is currently legal...but that does not make it right.

    abortion is murder.

    abortion is an intrinsic evil.

    Life does not begin at conception. A fertilized egg does not necessarily develop into a fetus anymore than a fetus will always become a baby and in fact less so. You can fertilize an egg in a test tube and it will not become a fetus. The morning after pill removes a speck of microscopic tissue invisible to the human eye and has no formation, no brain waves, no heartbeat/pulse. I support the morning after pill as a viable compromise.

    @jessejaymes sorry, but just because you can fertilize an egg in a test tube does not support what you are saying. what is in the test tube to "nourish" that egg? When does the "soul" enter in? I believe it IS at conception that life begins. The morning after pill is an abortion. letting nature take it's course is always the best choice for the mother's health and the baby's health. If that child is not meant to be it often times does not make it to the full term. we are playing God in interfering in what has been a natural process of reproducing . While i also do not believe in commercial contraceptives, better that choice of sin than murder of the most innocent among us.

    If anyone can look at that link and understand what it is that they are doing and still make that choice...we have become a nation of very selfish , sinful and uncaring people.

    @Jean Your attitude and the attitude of another on this thread who is attacking me for saying I feel more comfortable with the morning after pill instead of surgical abortion is why this country is like it is. neither of you will compromise an inch. A fertilized egg is not a fetus. I'm trying to find a way that formed fetuses are not aborted unless to save a mother's life, rape or incest and I'm advocating for something that does that. You and the other person both think it's your way or the highway and you both are on extreme opposite sides. How typical of Americans today. Wanna be dictators all.

    @jessejaymes i disagree with you....from the aspect that while i do not believe in commercial birth control (including but not limited to the morning after pill), it is legal and a choice (free will) that can be made to prevent pregnancy. the morning after pill is an abortafacia there are other birth control methods that are not. i believe that abortion (even the morning after pill) is murder. why choose those methods when there are others available....and again I am not advocating any of this because i believe it is all sin. But i also believe that abortions (including the morning after pill) or intrinsically evil sin because they are the murder of the most innocent among us.

    with the advances we have available in science we can pin point a womans week that she will become pregnant. why not choose a healthy choice of birth control? abstain that week. i know that is a totally foreign concept in this "all about me" world but maybe if it caught on we wouldn't have so many unhealthy and damaged people from the impact of the other methods. contraceptives have medical implications. who are we really "helping" here? the woman? the men? the pharmaceutical companies?!? the babies?!?

    and i don't want to hear how there are exceptions to this being effective. there is with all forms of birth control and there is with abortions. that is why Obama supported the born alive baby act. that way when an abortion was botched and the baby was born alive...they could just set it aside in a laundry hamper (which was actually done) waiting for it to die.

    Instead, that baby was rescued by a nurse who couldn't take it anymore and nurtured and kept alive until she had the opportunity to witness to what was taking place.

    I am not "attacking" you Jesse.....i am really tired of all the misconceptions....this whole thread is a misconception as they (the media) never cover the vast multitudes who show up to the right to life protests that take place yearly in Washington. there is more people in attendance at that yearly event than they want to be known. i know people who attend and have seen the pictures of the vast gathering of people.

    When a nation degrades it's moral values year after year, of course the people will get more self centered and justify another holocaust of innocent babies. It's so much easier to sleep around like a bunch of animals and use abortion as birth control. Decade after decade the Liberal media worked at brainwashing Americans that Gay marriage was a good thing. Every decade, more people fell right into the politically correct line of Liberal thinking. Our nation is showing all the results of a self love culture. Record broken families and divorce, people killing kids, 16 Trillion in debt and a Socialist president that does not care. Our nation is dead inside and it is only a matter of time when we default.
