Surprisingly, 70% of Americans believe Roe v. Wade should stand, according to a Wall Street Journal/NBC poll.
It's surprising because only 41% of Americans now call themselves pro-choice. But, as we learned last week, many Americans who call themselves pro-life support abortion in some cases. Only 9% of Americans think abortion should be illegal in every case, the WSJ poll found.
The new poll's figure - 70% - is the highest proportion of Americans ever to back Roe v. Wade, which turned 40 today.
Politix users are less supportive of Roe v. Wade than Americans in general. Only 61% of Politixers say they're against seeing the landmark ruling overturned.
