Congressman Says Obama Upholds Soviet Constitution, Not US Constitution

Rep. Paul Broun might want to read up on recent history. The GA Republican told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that President Barack Obama upholds the constitution of the Soviet Union.

But the totalitarian communist state collapsed more than 20 years ago. As for the long-ago superpower rival having a "constitution," it's technically true but historically wrong, since the document was simple Soviet propoganda

Still, Broun said, "I think the only Constitution that Barack Obama upholds is the Soviet constitution, not this one. He has no concept of this one, though he claimed to be a constitutional lawyer."

This isn't a new theme for the physician-turned-lawmaker. Broun tweeted during the 2011 State of The Union from his own office that Obama believes in socialism.

And Broun's long been a lighting rod for controversy. In the 2012 election cycle, video surfaced of Broun calling evolution and the big bang theory "lies straight from the pit of Hell."

    @Vance1 Except I'm not an Obama person as any true progressive/liberal who posts here will tell you. I don't even like Obama. But it's not an either or situation. I don't have to like Obama to DETEST IDIOTS like this guy.

    It's still true that government collapsed 20 years ago around the time of the Berlin Wall coming down.

    @Knightmare Well, the other side is contributing just as much. As a Libertarian I sit and watch both sides hurl us toward tyranny. As one of the two sides, people point out the other sides flaws and ignore their own house in disarray. Likely it's comforting to do so. My vantage point is a sad an scary existence watching them both do harm.

    I've always greatly enjoyed how the President's opposition pounces upon his middle name. As if the name 'Hussein' alone would indicate that someone is 'bad' or 'wrong.' My mother is named Elisabeth, so does that mean that she's royalty?

    @Knightmare I seem to remember hearing it recently...oh yes! When he swore the oath of office. "I, Barack Hussein Obama..."

    No ones trying to hide it. We just don't care. Nobody really cares about middle names. Most people don't go around calling each other by their two given names. We just say Fred, or George. Not Fred Jack, or George John. There's no scheme to hide it. It's on Wikipedia, after all!

    There must be a lot of kooks in your district. Broun stated that the sciences of embryology, evolution, and the Big Bang are "lies straight from the Pit of Hell ... lies to try to keep me and all the folks who are taught that from understanding that they need a savior. What a nut. I have to remember to put him on my list of the other GOP MENSA members.

    @PNWest - I know he said that. I wrote him for that ignorant statement. He makes a fool of our state, but I guess he was voted in by a bunch of idiots. He's also on the house science committee, which I have no idea how...

    It's all in the packaging. It's a lot like buying a can with a picture of juicy, delicious-looking almonds on the outside, then finding it half-full of dried-up, salty, old nuts when you open it.

    How can we still be stuck on this, 4 years on? If the President is a socialist, he's a lousy one. Sure, he gave man-birth to universal healthcare, but stopped short of a proper, single-payed system. And sure, he wants the more well-off folks of the grand ole US of A to pay a little more in taxes. But really? Is this socialism? No. Socialism would be single-payer healthcare, food stamps galore, 70%+ taxes on the rich and 20#- on the poor, end to all subsidies, etc.

    Of course, he may have some socialist-ish policies, but not all of them are, and the ones that are are usually hopelessly under-engineered. For example, I agree with some Republican principles, but I am not therefore a Republican, nor am I a conservative.

    It's pretty silly to point to an unreal document in this statement.
    But, there are similarities. POTUS thinks that he should be able to put suspected terrorists to death without a trial. He signed NDAA 12 without a second thought. There's "The Hit List".
    He insults liberties as well as his predecessor.

    There's probably a good reason why he's no longer a doctor. Believing Evolution and Big Bang theory is "straight from the pits of hell" leaves one to wonder what type of medicine this guy actually practiced.

    @drpeeper - good kick him out to. Everything in science is a theory. Gravity is a theory. You obviously do not understand the definition of scientific theory.

    @kirbstomp1 There is also Newton's Law of Gravity which is different than theory. A theory starts as one or more hypotheses, untested ideas about why something happens-theories are often revised to include the new evidence in their explanation. there is a difference between a scientific theory and a philosophical theory.

    Go back to school. Preferably not public.

    To echo a previous post, Mr Obama is a terrible socialist. He didn't create "socialized medicine" (whatever the hell that is) with Obamacare, he didn't nationalize the banks when they were failing, and he didn't take over BP when the Deepwater Horizon was poisoning the Gulf.

    Baseless claims followed by no evidence seem to be a dime a dozen on this site these days. A pity that pure number of subscribers to a belief doesn't make it right, no?

    Never mind the attempted barb at the end to try to steer the unsure towards said belief merely out of fear of a label. If someone who lives in a country with a stellar (albeit slow) healthcare system that I don't have to pay for at the door when I need it, with a minimal, yet incredibly potent, fighting force, solid banks that /did not/ waver during the '08-09 debacle and a slightly less crazy political arena than the US, believes that another country can have all those great things and more as well is delusional, then sign me up!
