Reince Priebus was just re-elected as the Republican Party's chair with only 2 dissentient votes - from the free spirits in Maine - and now pundits are asking "why?"

The party had a hellish 2012 under Priebus's uncharismatic stewardship. They lost a close presidential election, they failed to Get Out The Vote, and they lost Senate and House races that could have been won.

Curiously enough, two years ago Republicans "couldn't wait to get rid of" Michael Steele, the chairman who'd presided over "an epically great election," writes The Atlantic's Molly Ball. But Steele put the party into financial debt, and became notorious for gaffes and controversial remarks.

Why did Priebus win reelection to party chair, then? Partly because there was no realistic challenger, only an outsider candidate from Maine.

And Priebus had a simple mandate, which he fulfilled: get the party back on financial track, and don't be embarrassing. "I think he's done an excellent job," said one party member who voted for Priebus today.

As it stands now, he's presiding over the dissolution of the party, but if the "smart" guys at the top like him, their call.

I would miss him, though, for alphabetical reasons: if you remove all the vowels from Reince Priebus you get RNC PR BS. That's priceless.

perhaps Obama and the Democrats could learn something from Priebus based on the above quote from the article.

The democrats don't need to get on financial track, see, they didn't spend more money than they took in like the GOP did. What I find funny is that the 'party of responsibility' can't even balance their own campaign budgets... heck, they declared BANKRUPTCY in my state and defaulted on a bunch of loans. Can't make up that kind of hypocrisy.

He is an @$$. However, the GOP lost many races, not because of party, but because of the individual idiots. I don't fault him for losing the presidential bid as Romney was a so-so candidate, coupled with a VP with a lot of negatives. Filter in the biased media, and voila, you have losses. Now, if the GOP doesn't kick Priebus in the pants and tell him not be such a condescending BS-artist, they'll do worse in 2014.
