Get rid of the electoral college. That will help minimize the influence of redistricting issues. Then get rid of the districts. If a state can have 6 reps, have a state-wide vote for all candidates and the top 6 get the job. Corruption begins at home - these people are beholden to a local voting bloc rather than the needs of their state or country, which is harming our nation.

Proportional and cumulative voting is solution to redistricting. Draw the lines so that groups are not disenfranchised by not having an opportunity to elect a candidate of their choice. And limit at large Voting where a majority elects the candidates for minorities who except for redistricting would be able to elect a candidate of their choice to represent them, no matter what race the candidate is that they choose.

I personally believe that the practice should be illegal. To me, redistricting is too much like cheating. In the board game "Clue" for example, you wouldn't switch the Billiard Room with the Library so you can guess who the guilty player is. The same thing goes for re-drawing voting districts. To me its too much like rigging and taking away from the value of a person's individual vote.

Politicians have an obvious conflict of interest and they tend to gerrymander districts to give themselves/their parties the unfair advantage. Experts for sure, someone unaffiliated with either party that is involved in fields like surveying, statistics, etc And for sure, someone who won't use the hideous colors used on the map at the top of this thread! ;o)

I live in Texas.....I say 'independent experts'......Again I live in Texas.Texas Tea-Nuttery for the moment rules the day.Texas isn't "red" as much as "purple".Dallas,Houston,Austin,San Antonio and El Paso are Liberal and with our growing Hispanic population Texas is gonna turn "blue" as our bonnets.

This isn't kissy- kissy anymore. We know what fools we have allowed in thee government. Now it is time to erase them from public office of any type where they can think up trouble. Several states have ways to keep redistricting out of the hands of politicians. Other states should emulate them. My system would cover the state map with regular hexagons, and then have exceptions where that was logically defensible to a neutral commission. And every word, every note, every email, text, and tweet should be public record.

It should stay in the hands of the politicians. It's worked for YEARS and because a bunch of whiners decided to complain we should throw the whole system out? If you don't like how the politicians handled the redistricting you have the option to vote them out of office when their next term comes up. That's called the political process and democracy. The alternative is to leave it up to "experts". Well folks, the reality is there's NO SUCH THING as an "independent" without bias or an agenda. If we leave it up to them, just how do we show our displeasure or have our voices heard when dealing with an unelected panel who reports to no one?

It's already done by politicians at the state legislative level. It results in a caucus that does not represent the people of the states the elections are held in. It is through gerrymandering that the GOP still have control of the House even though they lost the popular election in terms of the numbers of votes cast for congressmen to the house. It is this type of gerrymandering and rigging of elections that some people are able to dig in for years. If the gop do not want to cooperate they need to get out of the way. If the democrats are unsuccessful then they to will be voted out when the time comes. This holding the country hostage due to district rigging is getting...
