On November 3, a Nevada casino worker tried to prove that voter ID laws are needed because it's too easy to commit voter fraud. She was arrested for voter fraud.
Roxanne Rubin, a Republican, was apprehended when she tried to vote for a second time in Las Vegas. Poll workers at the second site checked their database, found Rubin had already voted, and told her she couldn't vote again. She became angry and demanded to vote.
Nevada has no voter ID law in place, but in this case, it wasn't needed to prevent fraud.
Rubin told the AP that she hoped to prove that a voter ID law was needed because committing voter fraud is too easy. "This has always been an issue with me. I just feel the system is flawed," she said "If we're showing ID for everything else, why wouldn't we show our ID in order to vote?"
Nevada's Republican Sec. of State, who backs a voter ID law, is not impressed with Rubin's intervention. "If Ms. Rubin was trying to demonstrate how easy it is to commit voter fraud, she clearly failed and proved just the opposite," he said.
Rubin has pled guilty and has accepted a plea deal involving $2,500 fines, 100 hours of community service, and completing an impulse control program.
