When asked in an interview if he had ever fired a gun, President Barack Obama said, "Yes, in fact, up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time."
At a time when the nation is gripped by a debate over proposed gun laws, the president's comments to the New Republic came as a surprise to many who had never heard him speak of this activity before.
So skeptical was Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., she said she would like to go skeet shooting with the president.
"If he is a skeet shooter why have we not heard of this, why have we not seen photos, why has he not referenced it at any point in time?" she asked Monday night on CNN. "I think he should invite me to Camp David and I'll go skeet shooting with him and I bet I'll beat him."
White House spokesman Jay Carney said Monday he has not seen any pictures of Obama skeet shooting because when the president goes to Camp David, "he goes to spend time with his family and friends and relax, not to produce photographs."
So far, no clay pigeons have come forward to testify.
