Ashley Judd Splits From Husband

Move may mean she's less likely to take on Mitch McConnell

Actress and activist Ashley Judd is keeping busy as she ponders entering a Senate race in KY. Judd and her husband, race car driver Dario Franchitti, are divorcing, reports US Weekly.

The news comes as Judd ramps up her consideration of a challenge to KY Republican Mitch McConnell, the Senate minority leader. And National Journal's Michael Catalini thinks the celebrity divorce is bad news for McConnell - because he would have had the best shot against Judd over Democratic challengers, and now she's less likely to run.

"There are other more-conservative Democratic candidates waiting in the wings, such as KY Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, who would be better-positioned to give the vulnerable McConnell a serious challenge."

Of course, McConnell still has to get renominated. Democrats are helping recruit a right-wing challenge to McConnell in his own primary. Democratic donors and a liberal SuperPAC in KY have promised Tea Partiers that they'll shell out millions of dollars to back a conservative candidate against the minority leader.

McConnel is almost universally despised by the people who actually live here in this state. 34 percent have stated they won't vote for him regardless of who runs. If Grimes runs he is toast. The only reason he won last time was because his opponent had the moral character of a heartworm.

That's an outright lie. The only people he's despised by are those on the left, which are only concentrated in the counties surrounding Lousiville and Lexington. And we all know how those votes turned out for Obama in Ky in the last 2 elections.

@Medicinebow I don't have a problem with "starting from scratch" but Ashley Judd is about as far left politically as one can get. And I really don't think extremists from either side should start their political careers at the level of Senator. She has zero elected track record but sure spews a lot of hard core views. Do we really need more of that from either side?

@Linebacker66 Do you have a link? Honestly, I am curious. I met Naomi once and found her to be a very arrogant and self-righteous person. I couldn't stand her. Wynona apparently has stopped the finalization of a much needed major transportation artery, that was nearly completed, in Spring Hill, TN ( suburb of Nashville) because with her influences was able to demonstrate the new road caused her cattle stress. The traffic problems she has caused is palpable.
