A whopping 60% of Americans regard President Obama favorably, according to a new ABC-WaPo poll. That's the most popular the president's been in three years. His all-time high was 79%, around his first inauguration in 2009.
Interestingly, most of the increase in Obama's popularity came from non-partisans. Republicans like Obama less than they did in January 2012 - with a 1% drop in those who favor him. Perhaps unsurprisingly, 5% of Democrats like the POTUS more than they did last year. But that makes the average increase among partisans only 3%, meaning that more than 7% of non-partisans must have begun to favor the president since last year.
Conservatives point out that while Obama's personal popularity is up, his job approval numbers are lower than any other president's at their second inauguration - at only 52%.
