Washington state needs help crafting post-legalization weed regulations

There are job fairs and there are bake sales. Consider this a bit of both.

Washington is looking for an adviser on all things marijuana to help it transition into a newer, friendlier legal regime for green ushered in by state voters last year. As FOX informs us, state officials want to know "how it's best grown, dried, tested, labeled, packaged and cooked into brownies."

Scrambling to draft the rules and regulations concerning the growing and sale of weed, Washington's Liquor Control Board, which has been tasked with the job, is on the lookout for someone with at least three years of consulting experience in the cannabis industry.

"There are some technical aspects with marijuana we could use a consultant to help us with," said LCB spokesman Mikhail Carpenter, who noted the agency's preference for someone with "a strong understanding of state, local or federal government processes" in addition to a law degree.

@Chanel The whole point of it all is that the State has decided they want to maximize profit from legalization. They are going all in. How do you make this the most profitable thing possible to give politicians more money to steal? This must seem like to them like it seemed to D.C. Politicians back when they saw Social Security money first start rolling in. There is two things that will light up a Politicians eyes. More Money and More Money.

I have some background in growing, but not enough for the job, i have baked, and know how to cook as well as the need to use butter or coconut oil or fatty food since the thc is fat souble, an attorney. Two out of three ain't bad, but it rains too much in washington.

waste of govt money. get a lawyer who likes gardening & cooking to do it free, pro-stone-o, so to speak. if the state supplied the material he or she needed to consult about. The lawyer could take a small stipen, you know, a token fee...

@PoliticalSpice Hehe. Maybe you could guess at the THC content but I'd rather have a lab test for contaminants. It takes equipment beyond the average taste test.

If they didn't put regulation into place, then instead you could have more examples of impure products causing harm to medical patients. Medical marijuana, in particular, needs to be tested for mold, insecticides, herbicides and potency before a patient uses it.

I voted for it in Arkansas. I wanted to raise it. It would have been great for the local economy. We have plenty of water for irrigation and great soil. 8,000 acres. Yeah I wanted in on that.

Not only are there the technical aspects that previously if you were an expert you were a criminal (still technically are under federal law), there are also economic things that must be considered. Like how to market, tax, regulate, etc.
Most of it should be common sense but some tricky things will come up. Like who do you license to grow pot? Do you need a license? How do you get this license? What are the requirements licensed growers must adhere to?

what i find incredibly stupid is that they would turn it over to any state regulatory board.

just turn it loose and let it happen. it doesn't need regulation, and certainly doesn't need to be taxed.
