Cory Booker's Spokesman Won't Comment on Whether He's Gay

Silence provokes more speculation. But why do people care?

According to Gawker.com there's only one question "anyone really cares about" in relation to Newark Mayor, sometime superhero, and likely future New Jersey Governor Cory Booker.

Is he gay?

Booker has neither confirmed nor denied it, and his spokesman last week told Buzzfeed that he "would not comment on such matters."

Rumors have been circulated for years by the media and his political opponents. In his first race for office, as city councillor, Booker's rivals claimed he was secretly gay (along with being "white" and a "member of the Ku Klux Klan" - neither of which appears to be true). And Booker's bachelor status at age 43, and relatively few relationships with women, probably help to keep the rumors alive.

Booker usually casts himself as a hopeless single dude. He once said that the main difference between himself and Obama is that the POTUS is "married to an amazing woman and has two kids, and I have dead plants and fungus growing in my fridge."

Nee Jersey was one of the first states to offer Domestic Partnerships. Both Houses of the N.J. legislature approved of same gender Marriage early last year but was vetoed by Gov. Christie.

This might throw some of my Republican friends, but I work with alot of gay/lesbian folks. I also work with a mid-transition transgender. These folks are some of the most compassionate and caring healthcare workers I have ever worked with. At the end of the day, everyone is human, as long as you are a nice, decent, and caring person I will i give you my respect. I don't care what goes on in peoples bedrooms, and it really shouldn't matter to the rest of the world. Things gets out of whack when perversion comes into play.... but person exists in the "straight" world too.

I thought the same about transgender, until I heard her story. She was born with both parts ( she is in her 50's), the doctor chose which sex she would be. I can't imagine the confusion she felt. She is, hands down, on of the best health care professionals I have ever met. She has countless people who are blessed to have been cared for by her. It doesn't skew my politics, but she is an amazing person!

What freaking difference would it make? People are such disgusting busy-bodies. No one should pry into someone else's sexual preference or tastes unless they're considering dating them/becoming their sexual partner. I happen to have a preference for pale-skinned, naturally-blond or red-headed, light-eyed, pleasantly plump women with a well-cantilevered derriere and freckles. Does that make me a better or lesser man than someone who likes skinny, tanned, tall women, or men for that matter. Is it a SLOW news day? Report on important stuff, and don't invade other people's privacy.

Well it seems to make a difference to a lot of people given the number of folks especially in the Republican Party who are against any protection for the GLBT community. No job protection, no discrimination protection, no housing protection, many others. You only need look at the many negative comments in the gay related threads on this forum to see the contempt people have for the GLBT community.

@dances-weebles that's a good question and I think it's generally because people like to have someone to look down on or denegrate. By doing so they make themselves feel better and feel that their behavior is better. I'm not sure why this is I get no pleasure in other people's struggle but many seem to do so. It's why reality TV is so successful. I had a friend who once always voted republican not because he agreed with the politics but he wanted to be on the winning side. Human behavior is whacky sometimes.

i used to work in a factory with a guy who always voted republican, too. he didn't do so to be a winner, nor due to any ideological reasoning... he had voted as a republican for all of his adult life simply because his wife had told him to.
