Fed Up Conservatives Ditch Facebook for the 'Tea Party Community'

They're tired of the 'retribution' they face on the popular networking site

Some conservatives have decided to ditch Facebook for an alternative that looks decidedly like, well, Facebook.

It's a social network dubbed the "Tea Party Community," formed by a group of right-leaning social media fans who claim they've been bullied by legions of liberal Facebook users. So now they're doing their own thing:

"It's a new home for conservatives and the Tea Party movement in America," said site co-found Ken Crow, who claims it to be a "safe haven for the conservative movement where we can share ideas and thoughts without fear of retribution."

Justin "Filthy Liberal Scum" Rosario, a writer for leftie site Addicting Info, attacks the Tea Party Community in high-snark fashion, calling it another example of the "bubble of right wing propaganda" conservatives blow for themselves. But research suggests that it's the left, not the right, communicating in an echo chamber. As social psychologist Jonathan Haidt has shown, liberals are generally less accurate in their understanding of conservative ideas than conservatives are of liberal ideology.

As for the ostracism that conservatives like Crow complain of, that may be no illusion. Mediaite reported last year that liberal Facebook and Twitter users were more likely than conservative users to block or "unfriend" folks holding political opinions at odds with their own.

@bsking Nope. They were complaining that Facebook kept deleting posts that contained hate speech and the also deleted any and all posts which threatened violence against our president. So The Tea Party decided they needed their own space where hate and assassination threats are just hunky dory. No kidding.

They'll be awful bored without anyone to troll except for each other. Personally, I'm under the impression they get no worse than they give. It's just there are a large number of really dumb things that get said on right wing media that they parrot and when they're faced with the facts of it the dig in and look dumb. Saying they are unfairly attacked is ludicrous. It's the internet and people will attack you for whatever you say about any given topic at any given time. If you're that thin skinned you shouldn't go around telling people your political views and how they should live their lives. Especially if you're going to do it while slinging insults.

facebook is biased for obama? that's odd as the facebook community is made up of many people of many ideologys and itself doesn't have a political leaning. the politics are those of it's members. frankly, it's my friends of the conservative end of the spectrum who feel the need to put up links and quotes and articles and pictures of a political nature far more often then the ones who i'd think of as liberal do. I paused just now writing this to look at my facebook wall and my friends posts. I saw no less than 15 posts on gun laws, taxes, and obama all of a conservative nature. I saw one which you could term as liberal which was a pro school music class post -for the record it was put up by jr. highschool child of one of my friends. The rest of the posts were mostly about girlfriends, boyfriends, birthdays, work and the movie they just watched. Hell, I'm not even counting the God posts as conservative as I don't see how they can claim religion. It's a different thing all togather. If I lumped it togather like most people would it would have doubled.
If you don't want people to respon to your post then quit posting or remove them from your friends list. I've done it more than once to avoid rhetoric spam. Or you could just go hide on another site all togather because you're butthurt. Frankly in 5 years FB will be replaced by the next new thing and this new site will have been dead for even longer.

Most conservatives dislike online forums that have open discussion, allows alternate views and censors hate speech. You can see it on this very forum. Anything that does not agree with their limited world view is liberal bias and unfair.

Not particularly educated opponents, but it's way more fun...and then, that rare momement when irrational though strikes, and we find ourselves in intelligent debate and maybe learn from each other. Well, you can't keep everyone brainwashed if they are exposed to opposing views too often... It's that "us and them" mentality... They feel shunned because they isolate themselves by refusing to hear anything that contradicts their pundits... But I have seen that liberals do not cowar from opposing views. They often welcome it... And if even one liberal shows up on a GOP blog, they will claim the entire blog is now tainted... kinda like the "one drop of black blood makes you black" philosophy... I'm a bit surprised, however, that it is the TEA Party doing this because they do not seem to be so afraid of differing views and they are more likely to investigate claims before touting them as truth (in other words, THEY THINK!).... maybe the TEA Party needs to be more concerned about GOP hardliners invading their space and making them look like factious violent sheep. There is a big different between being a Rrepublican and being a conservative... the GOP are statists... the TEA Party is more liberty-minded.

I have a couple of conservatives on my facebook page, and while we are in a minority I haven't ever seen any negative comments toward us.
I can't think of any thing more boring than a site where everyone thinks the same.

Depends on what ideas they share. Wanting to freely express hatred and the desire to kill our president is a very poor basis for a social network -- and Facebook deleting those posts was a big part of their pique.

I'm far more conservative than most, and frankly, I don't care what anyone thinks about it. I know I'm correct, and whether Facebook agrees or not is not my concern. I find I'm using Facebook less and less over time as it becomes more cluttered and complicated. I haven't posted photos in months since they quit accepting them from plain camera phones, and I deleted a bunch of personal info last year, and don't plan to give them any more. I can take it or leave it.

On the one hand it is interesting that this continues the trend of self segregation of conservatives and that it seems there is a trend that conservatives lack either by choice or capacity the ability to coexist within a larger community. This would be why we have other examples like conservapedia.

On the other hand, "If you like facebook you are going to love the tea party community" If you like facebook, is that not declaration of independence against intelligence? Using it is one thing... liking and enjoying it is a whole other sewer of vapid.

But in all fairness as someone who has on occasion defended "conservative views" I have seen it myself that the "tolerant liberal view" is often more intolerant of contradictory position. So I can at least understand why there is such a push, but I disagree that conservatives should cordon themselves off to their own private camps of thought. Despite the nature of conflicting position there is value of being exposed to opinions that directly conflict with your own as it is what helps to expand ones knowledge and world view. Last I checked, having more knowledge and insight was never a bad thing.
