"especially less educated heterosexual men, watch pornography, the more supportive they become of same-sex marriage"

Hmm....so less educated men support gay marriage....interesting....

    'Nuff said....

Mmm, apparently its an uneducated stance to take the Constitutional standpoint and not want the Government to legislate every aspect of everyone's daily life.
I wonder how the FF's would have had to say to someone calling them uneducated for merely standing for what was written.

I read the implication as being more educated men would be more likely to accept gay marriage without being exposed to pornography, while less educated heterosexual men would more likely be intolerant to gay marriage if they had never watched pornography.

What the significance of this discovery is, I am not sure, since I'm guessing that viewers of porn are also more tolerant of S&M, scatology and probing during alien abductions, as well.

We know from other studies that acceptance of marriage equality is strongly linked to age - the younger the person the more accepting of gay relationships. The summary article does not address whether Paul Bedard considered that variable.

Now, if the study found watching porn led to someone entering into a gay marriage, that'd be news.

@Knightmare So the schools are failing - except for teaching about marriage equality? Wouldn't arithmetic be easier to explain? ;)

@DARSB - Depends on the importance of the agenda being implemented. Some people are more concerned about forcing homosexuality on society than making sure kids know their abc's. This is factual.

Paul Bedard (the guy at the Washington Examiner who wrote the article) must have been masturbating to Battletoads when he came up with the study.

There's no such thing as a valid theory where the data is unavailable. Every authoritarian psych and sociolological association publishes its studies and the data involved. You know who doesn't? Religion-based groups and political groups with agendas.

Makes sense to me. I like porn... i dont like dudes... but i have no problem with dudes who like dudes lol. I have no idea what liking straight porn has to do with accepting gay people but whatever. I just dont see why anybody cares. If your gay then your gay. If i was into midgets then i would bang midgets!!! Lmao... whatever works

Yeah, how would the researcher ensure a randomized, prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled, peer-reviewed study of watching porn?
  • !
@NormalFlora Without being able to read more of how it was set up, I think what they really found was that people who are open about watching porn feel free to speak their mind on other topics, too.
  • !
@Zazziness Agree. This is a "cohort study" where they look for correlation between two variables by crunching aggregate data. Considered worthless in the medical community but journalists always take the bait.
  • !
@Zazziness But that doesn't mean I don't agree with you on this. Without question it takes an "open mind" to watch porn and admit it on a survey.
  • !
I think you can get anyone to believe anything if you preface it with "studies show". I just believe "studies show" this study is a load of crap.

I'm always leery of drawing a cause and effect relationship, especially when it comes to self-selecting groups. It could just be that men who choose to watch porn are more accepting of different types of sexuality. If they weren't, they wouldn't watch porn.

    Not at all.
Porn does not objectify, whatever that might mean.
It educates, and enhances and improves the creation of interpersonal relationships.
That is why it is so feared among the conservatives, who fear God, and follow Lucifer.
  • !
@hall - If you don't know what "objectify" means, how do you know you disagree with me??? Porn is for fantasy... and it creates serious problems within relationships because it causes many watchers to have unrealistic expectations of their partners. They think the actors on the screen are real, and some even think that they are missing out on good sex if they aren't having the same experience in their own bedroom... And I have yet to meet a single conservative who "fears" porn... they think it is disgusting, maybe, but they are not afraid of it.
  • !
@DogLady_1 I see your view of the intelligence, comprehension and abilities of others as tending towards condescension. Never a good look!
I'm rather more questioning the generality of use of the term "objectify".
Fear refers to the fear of the concern of the allowance of the dissemination of porn, rather than the individual's personal fear of it.
  • !
@DogLady_1 And why, in general, should anyone find porn "disgusting"?
Personally, I find the deification of violence, dissent, belligerence and intransigence far more so!
  • !
@hall - Porn is disgusting when I think about how many of the actors are there by force... that it glorifies rape, adultery and bestiality... I put it on the same level as violence, belligerence and intransigence... porn and partisan politics have a lot in common, and it is all disgusting to me... can't speak for others who think its disgusting.

So porn is not just "demeaning to women" (why just women), as we were always being told back in the days of the crusades against porn being accepted mainstream.
    It promotes tolerance as well.
    Well, fancy that!
No wonder they didn't want it legitimised.
Who needs tolerance when you can have an addiction to pathological belligerence, directed at anyone where we don't approve of their morality????
    What's the world coming to?
The deity must be so disappointed.
    Disillusioned even in her omnipotence!!!!

@DogLady_1 Yahoo, still exists? Now that's old skool! Girl, you blew my damn mind. Next you will tell me you are connected on an AoL dialup!! O.O
  • !
@Fishbone345 - Ew! AOL sux and always has! Nope, got a programmer in the house, so always had a good connection... even when phone modem was all that existed, we had 58K dialup! Personally, I don't see the allure of Google... it has been more trouble to me... too much commercialism, maybe... like AOL... Yahoo knows me... and I still have a wav file of the hamster dance! LOL
  • !
@DogLady_1 Heh. AoHell was my first IP. I have some fond memories, not a lot though.
Crazy to think how much we waited for things, just 10 years ago. And now we get impatient if a picture doesn't load immediately upon clicking on it.

Could it be that people who watch porn just don't care about gay marriage and therefore aren't against it? You could do a study that about people watching porn and just about anything, that doesn't mean there's a correlation....

Hmm, I'm guessing that all the guys doing the survey watch porn, but the bigots are more likely to be religious, and to lie about their porn viewing.
