May 16 Jaybird1964 v Better off The law was meant to keep the government from forcing any religion on anyone!!! It is the church's fault for allowing the government to control what they say from the pulpit...especially just for tax exempt status...pay the taxes and say what you believe or shut your church down...just sayin'!!! May 15 LEC v Better off And it would be nice if we could get back to that... and stop insisting that the candidate lie about their religious beliefs and affiliations. I would rather not know.. Post
u May 15 Gumbeaux v Neither The separation between Church and State was meant NOT to keep church/religion out of government, but to keep the government out of our churches/religions. 'We the people' are grown-ups and should be able to decide for ourselves what's best for 'us'. r1 reply Post
u May 10 debido v Worse off Once upon a time we were taught biblical truths like treat others as you would have them treat you, not to lie, not to steal, not to murder, etc. and God shed His blessings on the United States. We were taught to respect others and to work hard. Now we have the "separation of church and state" and we do not teach our children any moral values. For the most part we now have children that are angry and are looking for the meaning of life in a bottle, sex and/or drugs, suicide and/or killing classmates, etc. . I have worked with children for years and it is so disheartening to see the pain that we, as adults, have inflected on our children because our world no longer has ... Post

May 12 Holliekat Yeah because atheists are the ones who judge people based on the teachings out of a fictional book. Unlike a christian, an atheist can view a situation with an open mind because we don't view things as though they were a sin. Gay marriage is a perfect example... The majority of christians view gay marriage as a sin based up the fact that the bible says it's a sin, as an atheist I don't view it as such. I see a group of people being denied a right based on the gender of the person they love and the fact that the constitution grants all Americans equal rights and the promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and that promise isn't just for heterosexual there... u Apr 30 URBS v Neither It is basically easy. Look back to when the PC crowd didn't get to dictate standards and you can see we were better off then. The separation is needed but there is currently an all out war against religion not simply a separation. Post

Apr 25 Concerned_Cit v Better off Basic human rights, such as are protected in the Bill of Rights, are steadfast and unchanging, whereas religion is always changing and the popular religion of the day is always changing, so we don't need religious dogma influencing basic human rights. Post

Mar '13 Colin2k41 v Better off Separation of CHurch and state also includes the STATE staying out of the church. For instance in Catholic hospitals, they should have the right to say no to abortions. Just as churches should have the right to say no to Gay Marriage. Also, in a courthouse, Gays should get married, while in a public hospital, abortions should be granted. Post

Mar '13 oldman75 v Better off Without separation we would be like Iran and Egypt. Nobody can guarantee that your mythology will be chosen by the state . Post
Mar '13 foodbaby v Better off In my opinion it needs to be stronger. I love my country and it sadens me that the motto and pledge of alegence that was changed in the 50s excludes those of us who do not follow the judeo christian religion. I do not trust in any "god" nor am under any "god". Believe as you will. Do not force your religious beliefs on me or anyone else. Post

Feb '13 Zazziness v Better off Theocracies are the most stagnant, oppressive and violent form of government ever devised by man. Not only is it totalitarian, the leader(s) can claim divine authority making it impossible to question their decisions. People who want to live in a theocracy have never properly examined the ones that already exist. B3 e55 endorsed Post
u Feb '13 CaryNickel v Worse off The founders never intended for separation of church and state to be an edict resulting in freedom FROM religion. Indeed, they overwhelmingly believed only those of strong moral conviction, resulting from Biblical teachings, were qualified to lead our nation. The founders only indicated that free exercise of religion was preferable to a government sponsored church. Only since World War Two have we seen the attack upon our nation's biblical values become more blatant and ferocious. The decline of our nation is the inevitable result. We see evidence of that decline in most every sector of society today, as every taboo is celebrated as the norm, and what was once repreh... B1 r13 replies e35 endorsed Post

Feb '13 Thegrif v Worse off "Is America better or worse off?" Hell, look around and tell me. I have watched the morals and ethics of America decline, and laws change to make more things legal, and for no reason but to secure more votes. You can be legal and still not be ethical, but if you are ethical you will always be legal. All this hippie Libreral poo-poo crap, saying we should have this right, or this should be legal. Thats crap you can look around and see, and know something is just plain ole wrong, or just going against the grain or against nature or natural use of whatever! America gas gone to crap. Its Candy Land, what a joke. B2 e7 endorsed Post

Feb '13 bsking v Worse off We are worse off because as we know the majority of the voting population is of the low information type and that person wrongly believes that the separation between church and state is in the Constitution somewhere and that afford them an opportunity and a right to be totally moral free B1 r12 replies e7 endorsed Post
Feb '13 PNWest v Better off The America I grew up did just fine with strong separation between church and state. We pretty much respected each others religions and didn't try to use the schools as a tool to push our religious views onto others. This changed in the 70's and early 80's when the evangelical right started gain traction. They've been claiming that the US is a Christian nation and trying to force their views onto everybody else. The stronger the separation between Church and State remains the less change that these right wing nuts can turn the US into a theocracy like Iran or Afghanistan under the Taliban. Feb '13 blue_yahoo v Neither I had to choose neither since my feelings are that not many understand what the intent of this right is. The founding fathers just didn't want the government to pick one religion over another........remember many of the colonist came for religious freedom as the countries they came from had the catholic church as the state church. It wasn't the intent for the government to be godless but to not force any one religion onto the countrymen. I really don't understand the whole concept anyways since all of our laws are based in biblical standards anyways. Think most can see the effects of a godless government we have become today. Feb '13 Dan_Tien v Better off When church and state are one and the same then all manner of atrocities are legal in the name of God. There is plenty of evidence of this in history, but one only needs to look at modern day theocracies to see the proof. B2 e3 endorsed Post
Feb '13 morphine-bunni v Better off we would be better off IF there was a STRONG separation here, but in all reality, there isn't. most politicians have to claim Christianity and be seen going to church to even be elected. didn't we just have some big scandals a few years ago about these holy rollers wanting to post the Ten Commandments everywhere too.?
