Rand Paul has responded to his father Ron Paul's remarks on the killing of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle &ndash' comments that triggered an instant backlash.

Sen. Paul (R-KY) sent a statement to Breitbart.com this morning:

Chris Kyle was a hero like all Americans who don the uniform to defend our country. Our prayers are with his family during this tragic time.

Kyle was killed at a Texas gun range by a fellow veteran who suffered from PTSD. The sniper often took PTSD victims shooting to help them recover.

Ron Paul set off a tsunami of online outrage with a tweet sent on Monday:

Chris Kyle's death seems to confirm that 'he who lives by the sword dies by the sword.' Treating PTSD at a firing range doesn't make sense.

He later partly walked back his tweet via a Facebook post: "As a veteran, I certainly recognize that this weekend's violence and killing of Chris Kyle were a tragic and sad event. My condolences and prayers go out to Mr. Kyle's family."

    Really what does it matter? Two people are dead and Texas will probably execute the third. And in the end, nobody wins. or even breaks even. STOP GIVING ACCESS TO GUNS TO MENTALLY ILL PEOPLE.

    Career politicians playing games, again. Of course, Rand Paul may actually believe what he has said, but he doesn't support "the troops" the way most believe they should be supported. He thinks the troops should have to pay for their own [fill in whatever you can think of], and do so through private, for-profit corporations.

    "a hero like all Americans who don the uniform to defend our country" - except John Kerry, apparently. Sen Paul has previously demonstrated his willingness to say whatever to take advantage of the topic du jour.

    Generally, don't most, if not all politciains, make the most of terrible situations (regarding others' tragedies) for themselves/their own agenda? I'd laugh, but then I'd cry...

    @JesseJames I was listening to you yesterday, though I know so, myself (re politicioans' motives). Term litmitations in order, too! No lobbying for 20 years after serving in Congress!

    @GmanGSW Seriously we could put a grade school in charge of Congress and they would be no less effective (Zero can't be subtracted) no less corrupt (absolute is absolute) and we'd be no worse off. Just boggles the mind how bad our government is.

    It makes me sick to my stomach to see people using a Chris's death to advance their agenda. Be it mother jones or rand Paul. Or even this forum for that matter. It's a tragedy. Nothing more nothing less. Please let us bury this hero and put the politics away.

    Why should the two men agree simply because they are related? I disagreed a great deal with my parents on certain issues and my daughters disagrees with me. That's what independent thinkers do.

    Dang, Ron Paul says one bad thing and everyone jumps all over him, I STILL WANT TO SEE OBAMA'S ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND I STILL WANT TO KNOW WHY HE'S USING SOMEONE ELSE'S SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER!!!!

    Actually, and I hardly ever say this, I agree with Ron Paul. "Treating" PTSD at a firing range does NOT make sense at all, no matter who you are. It would actually be quite dangerous, capable of triggering flashbacks, anxiety, and panic, which is what I'm guessing happened here.

    Finally! That's all he was trying to say. All the deceptive repubs, establishment types, jump on Paul anytime they have a chance. Maybe they should have use that energy and jumped on Obama and Biden everytime they made gaffs and they made a whole lot more than Ron Paul. Paul is right on this. That's about like taking a recovering drug addict to a pharmeceutical company tour. I'm sure he meant no disrespect to Kyle.

    Rand Paul is a joke, the only reason he made that statement was to try to garner votes from the gun and wing nuts, he is a shallow and vain republican who has his eye on the presidential spot and is using his dad to gain the national spotlight. The man is reprehensible and a scoundrel who will stop at nothing to stand out.

    The gun nuts are always saying that if only we had more armed good guys that everything would be OK and only the bad guys would get shot. Well it seems to me that in this case you had a gun nut loon attacking 2 armed men on a shooting range full of well trained gun owners. Not only did he manage to shoot an kill a man who may have been the foremost gun slinger in the world but he did while the man was armed and surrounded by other well armed good guys. Now please tell me again how arming Groundskeeper Willie and Mrs. Crabapple is going to keep the kiddies safe in school? You want to get rid of gun nut killings get rid of easy access to guns.
