Britain is close to making gay marriage fully legal, now that a marriage equality bill has passed the House of Commons. Members of Parliament (MPs) voted for the measure 400 to 175 after a full day of debate.

Prime Minister David Cameron of the Conservative Party called the outcome "an important step forward." Conservative votes "were split roughly 50/50" on the bill according to the Daily Beast's Justin Green.

Green, a conservative analyst, sees the British vote as a sign of things to come in America. And conservatives should embrace the trend towards gay marriage, not resist it. "We can continue a fight against relative inevitability," he writes, "or we can focus efforts on protecting freedom of conscience and religious liberty. There's still time for conservatives to coopt this issue as part of a broader agenda for promoting family values. But rest assured, if we wait too long, that opportunity will pass."

    It really doesn't matter whether you agree with gay marriage is right or not, that ship has sailed. those who oppose have lost the battle. It's time to move on to other things and start worrying more about the deficit than what consenting adults are doing sexually.

    for sure, still amazing to me that we (most) focus on such issues, when such real issues exist, but I guess that's the way "they" want it...good for business and the status quo...

    it already is. obama is wanting to only pick from a certain group of gay or latinos for some gov jobs.

    take it to heart tell the truth if you can,what would be said if a president said he wanted to hire straight white males and pick only from that group for jobs.
    sure to cause a ruckus being so many think diversity is better than the best

    That's not the issue here Tom. I war constantly with the gay males on this site who are drama queens. I don't like a lot of things about the gay community. Of course I don't like a lot of things about the senior community or the rap culture. Problem is nobody died and made me dictator. Nobody likes everything about any culture. Except their own of course and I'm not that thrilled by my own. I expected to be in the 100 richest people of America and I'm not. Whatever.

    The issue is that the majority of Americans polled today support gay marriage. The courts have consistently ruled in favor of gays. To continue the war against gays marrying has about the same prospect as a bunch of Nazi's hiding out in Brazil dreaming of restoring the third Reich. The battle is lost. Time to move on.

    This is a very sad day for a once proud nation. The scourge will come over here too, and we too will pay the price for a Godless agenda. We can put up our last stand, but many soldiers have already given up the fight. I worry about my precious children and the world they will inherit. It is not the world my father and my grandfather and his father before him inherited. Ours is a sad and depressing world with diminished opportunities and greater regulation and taxes and a world where God is not welcome anymore. Welcome to the tribulation...

    God doesn't exist. God is just Santa for grown ups. What if one of your kids is gay? Would you want them to live in a world where they are shamed just for being who they are? You wanted your kids to inherit the world of your father and grandfather and great grandfather? What do you think was best about those days? Slavery? Women not being allowed to vote? Segregation?

    I'd be shocked as they seem to like girls a little too much for my tastes. Anyhow, I'm not addressing the rest of your post as it is just the typical "race card" being pulled.

    Yeah, i'm not real keen on following what Great Britain does......except for roundabouts. On a side note there is a really good Mexican restaurant there on the corner in the picture.

    Let's face it, there just isn't a good, rational argument against gay marriage. People are realizing that, more and more. And some people who are just homophobic realize this one is all over but the shouting.

    Don't agree with the lifestyle...can't say I would approve if gay marriage being legal in the United States...however, there is only so much you can do to hold back minority groups from gaining their wants in this PC world of ours...so, not much you can do to hold back the tide...

    Another nail in the coffin of bigotry and those with a superiority complex. The holier than thou crowed will have to learn they are not the only arbiters of morality and what's right. A win for everyone who has been discriminated against for who they are.

    The fixation Democrats have for one group of people is a sign of the times. Every other group of disrespected bullied people get no mention. The bigots against Christians fixate on Homosexuality because the Bible teaches that it is unnatural and a sin. This is the only reason they would spend the last 40 years indoctrinating the people to forget what they learned in biology class. Lets get the equal right for a man to have 10 wives ok? Nah, that does not attack the Bible's words like the Gay issues do.

    The more of us there are, the fewer prejudices we can tolerate.

    But along with that, the fewer rights and liberties we have too.

    That's a trend that seems to be unavoidable.

    Sure, if marriage is defined by your sexual preferences I can see where you might believe it's not equal. But we would first have to eliminate procreation as a defining factor.

    @hwyangel What the in hell are you talking about? Since when did you have to procreate to get married? I'm arguing over the rights granted by civil marriage granted by the state. Don't you think two same-sex couples should be allowed the right to visit each other in the hospital? Or have full custody of their adopted children?

    @hwyangel It's not legal in all 50 states granting all LGBT people equal rights under the law. The 14th amendment grants all US citizens equal protection under the law.

    As Abraham Lincoln said we can't live in country that is both half free and half slave. We can't live in a country that is half equal rights for LGBT and other half that discriminates. That's why I'm hoping the Supreme Court legalizes same-sex marriage natoinwide this June.

    Seems the UK has the same problem we have here across the pond, do nothing worthless politicians that can't fix real problems so instead they pander to every minority issue out there in order to look like the proverbial "Good Guy" and cement their future.
    I'm glad for the Gays, I really am. And I hope to see it here too someday. I just hope its worth it. Somehow I doubt being married will ease the pain of being detained indefinitely without trial or being shot at by a drone because someone in the Government was able to classify you as a terrorist with the weak system in place for what defines the word.
    A victory for the few in a battle, meanwhile the war against continued Liberty for us all rages on and we lose more ground every day.

    Good thing for the UK. Everybody should be able to be free to marry who they want. Fuck religion or any other constraints. Love is love.
