Fox News Slammed for Claiming Solar Won't Work Because US Isn't Sunny Like Germany

It's not news that Fox News doesn't favor alternative energy sources. But the cable network is now making headlines for its hostile coverage of solar power, thanks to self-appointed Fox-watchdogs Media Matters.

Fox host Gretchen Carlson and guest Shibani Joshi lamented that America's solar industry has a "dim" future as well as a "checkered past" – unlike Germany's booming solar power business. "What was Germany doing correct? Are they just a smaller country, and that made it more feasible?" asked Carlson.

Joshi replied that Germany is "a smaller country, and they've got lots of sun. Right? They've got a lot more sun than we do...In California, it's a great solution, but here on the East Coast it's just not going to work."

Germany actually receives far less sunlight than the US – slightly less than Alaska, America's least sunny state, as the National Renewable Energy Lab map above shows. That fact, and Fox's fumbling of it, have been highlighted by Slate and Media Matters.

O'Reilly made the mistake of not verifying the Shirley Sharraz video from Breitbart and he issued an apology and stated he'll never let that happen again.

I didn't see any apology from Andrea Mitchell or Martin Bashir for their videos...

The telecasters on that segment should be terminated from fox news. As a scientist i was offended by their lack of knowledge of the topic in discussion. Fox newscasters are a joke to have allowed this to hit the airwaves. This kind of crap is not even sensible Broadcasting Shame on you producers. Not only does the US have more territory that receives full sunlight more often than Germany, solar panels generate electricity on cloudy days, albeit less than full sunlight.

Although Fox News anchors drip contempt when delivering critical reports, I doubt that they bother to personally check many of the stories that they are given, if any at all. News anchors are actors, not investigative journalists.
