A handful of NFL stars, including Deion Sanders and Michael Irvin, have teamed up in a whole 'nother way to support gun control in a new ad from Mayors Against Illegal Guns,
reports Politico.
The ad, which also speaks to their own occupational experience with the gun issue - "how many more half-time moments of silence?" - ends with a plea for public change: "It's time for our leaders to do something."
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, who along with NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg represents the northeast liberal tinge to the "Mayors Against..." campaign, touts the celebrity athletes' contribution:
We are grateful that these sports heroes - who are also fathers, brothers and uncles - are choosing to speak out. We need every voice to be heard to keep the pressure on Congress to pass legislation that will save American lives and make our neighborhoods safer.
