Rand Paul to Give Tea Party Response to State of the Union

The speech will follow the GOP's official reply by Sen. Marco Rubio

In another sign of the GOP Civil War, Sen. Rand Paul will deliver a Tea Party response to the president's State of the Union address right after Sen. Marco Rubio gives the official Republican rebuttal.

Paul, R-Ky., will speak in front of an audience at the National Press Club, which will also carry the event live on its web site, Politco reports.

"We are giving a voice to the tea party movement when the mainstream media and the Republican establishment wants to write us off as dead," said Amy Kremer, chairman of the Tea Party Express, CNN reports.

Both Rubio, R-Fla., and Paul have been aligned with the Tea Party, and there is speculation that each could run for president in 2016.

"We are proud that Marco Rubio is giving the official Republican Party response because he is a tea party conservative and one of our own," Kremer said to CNN. "But the Republican Party doesn't necessarily speak for all conservatives and the tea party movement has its own voice and this is our chance to be heard."

    @martydotcom no, the liberal media trying to make a crusade out of it has the potential to affect the female sheeple. They should be more worried about the possibility of a very real civil war if Washington doesn't get there heads out of their asses.

    I mentioned two newspapers Miami, which has a very conservative editorial policy (Cuban, you know, like your savior Marco.) and West Palm which is liberal. Being uninformed and possessing no interest in learning, no curiosity as to why I would mention both rather than just one paper End of conversation you're not worthy of another finger tap

    If Rand Paul wants to represent the "Tea Party" then he should resign from the GOP. Rubio is giving the GOP response. I certainly hope that Mr. Paul's speech is not carried by any of the major networks. Why should the GOP be given twice the opportunity as a sitting President?

I think the press is obligated to also show rebuttals from many sects of society... Why should only the DNC and the GOP get all the press coverage? Bring on the rebuttals from ALL political persuasions! I welcome it!

    I think that's the next step.

    I expect to see a third party movement as the Republican party returns to reality and starts to help govern again.

    Hey, I would welcome rebuttals from the Libertarian, Green, Constitution and other parties as well... It is high time we stopped thinking that only the GOP and the DNC's opinions count. They do not represent everyone. The press should make more efforts to infiorm citizens of diverse perspectives on political issues. That's their job! When they reserve the lion's share of their time for only two parties, they do a disservice to the People.

    aint it funny how the truth stands out? Right now we have the rich and the free loader of society running this country. Wouldn't it be nice to have some common sense responsible people give it a try for 30 or 40 years?

    @marine1 - that would be downright lovely... The beauty of a republic is that it thrives on the diversity of ideas... We must be creative in order to maintain liberty... As our people evolve, so should our ways to make sure we still live in a free country... isn't that our goal for all political discourse? To defend and maintain liberty?

    The Tea Party has to operate under the GOP But the GOP is not the Tea Party nor do they share are values and want to fix the problems in this country. The response is warranted because I believe neither political party is trying to fix anything.

    the Tea Party "has to" operate under the GOP? Who made that rule? You don't think they could go ahead be their own party? If you look at the past few years, the TEA Party has written more legislation than the GOP... of course they want to fix problems, but does Congress??? So far, their actions (or inaction) has shown that they don't.

    *crickets crickets crickets* It doesnt matter. When the Tea Party started accepting money from Crossroads GPS and other big GOP supporters, they became nothing more then a extension of the GOP. This "tea party response" is meant to rally the 2010 support base, offering the illusion that the Tea Party is still what it was once thought to be.

    I can't wait to see Rand Paul pick his nose and simulate fart noises under his arm for 10 minutes. It'll be the most intellectual thing any Tea Party member has ever done.

    This is just more proof of what I have been saying. The Republican Party is not and has nothing to do with the Tea Party. Rand Paul just doesn't want to give up the ghost of this cancerous growth that the Republicans cut off!

    Since they live in different states it's hardly possible for Sen Paul to "defeat Rubio in the GOP primary next cycle."

    Shouldn't the Tea party be an actual stand alone party before they're given air time for a response? I mean, is "the National Association for free sex for guys named Jesse Jaymes party" getting air time? I must have missed the memo.
