I wish Ron Paul supported the military. I think with the exception of that he would have made a great president. Certainly he would have shrank government to the size it should be and he would have honored the Constitution, something this current administration simply doesn't do. So much wasted potential. His campaign for president never got any traction simply because he wanted to surrender all wars to our enemies.

I still dream of what $1T in spending cuts in the first year of office would look like. I also believe he really would have eliminated the federal debt by the time his term ended. Hopefully there will be a politician just like him that comes along with the goal of having a strong military, but small limited government. We certainly could use that today.

In 2008 I would have voted for him, possibly in 2012 as well. But if you take out his support for the founding principles regarding war and military spending you take away a big part of the reason I would support such a candidate. Thus far I am not impressed by his son...

Not everyone can take time off from the civil war for a pacific island vacation. Some of us need to work to help pay Ron Pauls pension.

@NormalFlora This is narcissistic? What about nude self portraits in a shower or bath? Trying to clean up ones image, perhaps.

When right wingers say they want "small government", what they really mean is they don't want government to help people. They are all about big government when it comes to policing the world, locking up people for smoking pot, telling people who they can have sex with and telling women they can't abort.

And his son isn't nearly as impressive as him to begin with. Though I am curious to hear his state of the union reply....

@Jet_Silverman No, they mean they want government small enough to fit government into your bedroom, telephone and computer.

I do enjoy Rep Paul's use of a UN decision making body to pursue his personal interests. It's been his modis operandi for decades, but instead of using the House of Representatives he's simply shifted to the UN's WIPO.

Shifting to agencies that meet a particular personal goal does seem to be a family trait. When son Rand became cross with the American Board of Ophthalmology he up and started his own certification board for eye surgeons - which so far has not met the minimum standards of such an organization but does allow Senator Paul to claim he is a "board-certified" surgeon without the unnecessary fuss of explaining to prospective surgical patients how meaningless that title really is. http://goo.gl/bOlJU

Learned a new thing about politicians, did ya?

In my experience, politicians are self-centered jerks. They almost have to be in order to succeed. Pity...
