Obama's State of the Union Will Be Less 'Liberal'

He's turning back to the economy, after inaugural was slammed for focus on social issues

If you're expecting another tearing liberal screed at Obama's State of the Union address, you're in for a disappointment.

Obama was "stung" by media coverage calling out his inaugural address's "left-leaning" focus on social issues, according to the National Journal's Ron Fournier. He intends to avoid repeating that by talking less about social issues and more about the economy and jobs, jobs, jobs during his State of the Union speech this Tuesday.

However, Obama has a way of making economic policy talk sound rather liberal-leaning to many ears. His last State of the Union was branded "class warfare" by some for its emphasis on "fairness" and "the one percent."

Staffers reveal that Obama's SOTU will announce plans for major spending on infrastructure, education, and technology to create jobs and combar climate change. In a speech last Thursday, the president described this as a "growth agenda" as well as a "fairness agenda."

Yea. Unless he promises to cut military spending at least 50%, create a wpa type jobs program to repair and build put solar panels on all sunny govt buildings to reduce tax payer energy bills and reduce pollution, and lay rail and build a national high speed rail network.. Unless he lays out a plan
like that, i will be disappointed, but i've grown used to it ober the years....

@PoliticalSpice I wouldn't go as far as cutting military spending that much. Cutting the military should come after looking at other programs on the priority scale. Many folks knock solar power...I don't. But, I believe the private sector should be doing the funding for solar energy. They also should be the ones to reap the rewards for solar's success. It's obvious that gov't grants for solar are failing.

@Medicinebow Well we disagree. But I will give you my take on both so you can st least inderstand my reasoning. First, I do not believe the govt should be putting money into research or building solar plants. That is not what I support. I support jobs in sunny areas where the govt trains and employs people to install solar on govt buildings, federal buildings, hospitals, schools, etc. to reduce engergy cost and pollution. Imn talking mostly about a jobs program to install priloven technolgy not improve on it. In return for buying the panels the govt should also insist on long service warranties as part of the program.

As to the military here is my take. There is a lot of waste in military budget. Projects that cost hundreds of millions like the F-35 which do not even perform as pronised that we continue to build. The problem with cutting military spending is the comlanies doing this work hire subcontractors all over the country. Even a bad project is impossible to kill because so many congressional districts employ people for each project. A project offering a thousand jobs may employ subcontractors or buy equipment from as companies in fifty to a hundred congressional districts, each of which has a repressentitive who will hear we are laying off hundred or so people in your community if you kill this. That makes getting rid of bad projects impossible. But for a congress person to blame the sequester or obama is much easier then telling a town meeting of hundreds of employees and family and friends they dupported cutting a project cause it was necessary. So the sequrster makes it possible to wipe out a slew of bad programs. Re-negotiate contracts on better terms for those congress devides to reinstate, etc. i see no way to get signifigant military cuts without a drastic measure like thr sequester. It upsets me the sequester is unlikely to take place. Military pork never decreases, it only grows...

At this point I don't much care to hear what Obama has to say. He obviously thinks amnesty, gay rights and guns are more important than getting a budget passed and spending under control. He has broken every single fiscal promise he made. I understand that the left supports every social issue he supports and they find this satisfactory en total for his presidency. I do not. I can tolerate much when something I feel is more important is being attended to. It is not with Obama. Obamacare is a bastardized piece of crap that is not nearly what we need which is true socialized medicine single payer. Unemployment is still near what it was when he first took office. Wall Street and the banks remain unchecked. Pork barrel spending is unchecked. Transparency is a word, nothing more. Not only did he extend the Patriot act after promising he would do away with it, he has allowed extensions to that treasonous act.

Obama is a liar and a failure. He's no different than GW Bush. Bush tried for amnesty. Bush spent us into this mess and Obama refuses to deal with the mess. Both GOP and Democrats are now clearly corrupt to the core.
