North Korean state media confirms that the country exploded a third nuclear device today, according to the AP.
The nuclear test was reported a few hours ago, after an "artificial earthquake" in North Korea aroused the suspicions of UN and South Korean observers.
North Korea recently warned that it planned to test another nuke, defying UN Security Council orders to shut down their nuclear program or be hit with more sanctions. Previous nuclear tests took place in October 2006 and May 2009.
Obama called the test a "highly provocative act" that "undermines regional stability" poses "a threat to US national security," according to USA Today. The UN Security Council will meet to discuss the test at 9am EST Tuesday.
