In a nod to the critical role of social media in politics, House Republicans have created a web site to respond in real time to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address.
The House Republican Conference's site, www.GOP.gov/SOTU, will provide a "second-screen experience" for viewers of Obama's speech tonight, Politico reports.
It will feature responses to specific parts of the president's speech in the form of GOP "fact checking," a stream of tweets from GOP leaders and supporters, infographics and other content.Social Media has become a powerful tool during major political events, offering the television audience a running commentary from friends and experts. A politician's gaffe or turn of a phrase can pop up almost instantly as a meme that catches fire on the internet.
