    You have to admit it's a hell of a marketing ploy. I may rush out myself and buy another gun just in case my four guns won't get the job done. Just call me Rambo.
  • !
    @jessejaymes The strategy is sound. Everyone that wants a gun has one, so how do you increase sales? Convince those people that you can never have enough.
  • !
    I'm 22 and for reasons of protection I won two Glocks. But maybe we (women) are much more pragmatic and sensible. We know the need to keep guns away from criminals. The gun extremists they ..... well, they want to play cowboy. The NRA from what I hear was once a good group. But now they are solely a lobbying group for gun companies who's goal is to sell guns. The anti-gun regulation thing by the gun companies and NRA is only about selling guns to as many people as possible and not care who they go to.
  • !
    Could be but remember, our government (the banks) was fear mongering people to buy houses before the would be priced out of the market. Now we're being FORCED to comply with making the banks whole who committed fraud. The NRA's alleged "fear mongering" to get people to get on board is purely voluntary. Has our government done horrible things to human beings like putting them into camps, criminal medical experiments and massacres ? You'd have to be a fool to trust them.

    not just that. cops getting laid off jails over crowded inmates getting dumped back on the streets do to over crowding. we have police chiefs and sheriffs saying the same thing. when california cops are saying they cannot be everywhere at once telling folks to get their permits,it shows that what the nra guy saying is true.

    some would rather others die than allow them to protect themselves. then again they must not live in the real world and have never in a life time faced anything where their life was in their own hands.

    Sheep will always be sheep and wolves will always run in packs to insure their survival and herders like obama will always lead sheep to the slaughter.
  • !
    @marine1 And those parroting someone else will always invariably resort to calling someone else a sheep. Doom and Gloom the business that's been winning politics and religion for nigh on 3 millenia. The end of the world being prophecised by those with the almost eager desire that it actually comes to fruitition. Those who follow that herder aren't the real sheep? Come on now...

    Don't knock those who are prepared. When our power went out for several days in winter during a heavy snow, my family had food, water, light, heat and entertainment. Many of my neighbors were also snowed in. Most had a miserable time and many had broken water pipes. I stay stocked up for several weeks. It has served me well on more than a few
    occasions.
  • !
    You ever hear the story of the Ant and the Grasshopper? It's a basic moral that children learn when young...be prepared.

    People buy life insurance even though they are young. They get medical insurance even though they are in perfect health. They pay a lifetime's worth of car insurance but most never have an accident. My grandfather's barn had a lightning rod just in case....but it was never struck by lightning.

    Americans in the 1920's felt that the good times could never end....then came October 1929.

    I'd rather be prepared for something that never happens than be one day too late. I wonder how the clowns who wait til the last minute would feel if they were killing each other over the last can of beans at Walmart. They will have to sell their Lexus for a loaf of wonder bread and it may just be worth it.

    Some normally intelligent people say that bad things can't happen because they haven't happened yet. Dumbest logic I've ever heard. Just because your generation has enjoyed a lifetime of peace does not mean that the reality of the world will not come crashing down upon your TV-mentality. We have been lucky and if there was a real emergency about 250 million Americans would have no clue what to do nor the resources to do it.

    Great logic.

    Why not also say "I've never stepped on glass before...why do I need shoes??"

    Or "I've never had a cavity....why should I brush my teeth?"

    Or "I've never had a car accident! I'm taking those pesky seatbelts out!"

    Or "Nothing bad has ever happened in my lifetime so far...so nothing bad will EVER happen."
  • !
    @RealityOne
    Problem with your examples is that we have plenty of historical data of what sort of bad things will happen if we stop doing the things your examples suggest. OTOH, many people have been living without guns without any ill effects, so they don't seem to be a necessary component of safe, prepared living.
  • !
    @CultOfReason OTOH there have been Millions of people in history living without guns that had some very serious ill effects... there are mass graves scattered around the world with those ill effects... Today in the US there will be Ill effects of living without a gun getting some 100's of peoples bodies outlined with chalk....
  • !
    @Quantummist
    You need to understand the difference between correlation and causation. There is no evidence that having guns would have helped those people. There are plenty examples of armed peopled being massacred as well. Just ask anyone on the losing side of a war.
  • !
    @CultOfReason .... There have Been Thousands of examples where guns have stopped people from getting killed... Average Number of people killed during mass murders stopped by Police is around 13.... Average Number of people killed during mass murders stopped by Armed Citizens is around 3...

    I could provide you with dozens of links of lives saved by people armed for self defense... and Dozens of links of lives lost because an unarmed individual was easy targets....

    As far as no evidence that having guns would have helped those people... So your view would be why try to defend yourself ? I would bet that those folks in those mass graves would have disagreed that they were better off being unarmed than armed when they were rounded up and shot in the heads.... I'm absolutely sure that if they were around to speak the Dead People would rather have been armed with a Glock at the time they were murdered instead of "Gun Free Zone" sign...

    @thatgirl LOL...That's what I say ! Look around you, do you see what is happening? Or , do choose to bury your head in the sand too? Sounds like it.
  • !
    @mimi57 And I bet you're a glass half empty sort of person.

    If society breaks down can you; grow your own food, weave your own cloth, have the knowledge to diagnose illness and then have the medicinal plants to prescribe to cure said illness???

    Shall I go on?

    I have my guns, plenty of extra high capacity magazines, and I won't say exactly how much ammunition I have, but enough. One thing that LaPierre has right is that Obama is dangerous. Whatever happens, it is good to be prepared.
  • !
    This is the way the gun nuts see the world. Full of big bad scary things that only having a gun and carrying it around with you all the time will protect you from. They never really graduated from the security blanket stage that the rest of us did as toddlers. Imagine going through life thinking that everything was a threat waiting to happen. What an awful existence.
  • !
    Bet you Mubarak never thought the people would rise up and oust him....or the people would be in a civil war in Syria....or how about Israel being bombarded by missiles....

    In a world where there are people like terrorists and others like them....it is good to be prepared....

    Though you do have a point too....not to completely trust in those things but to trust in God first for your protection....the Bible says as much....
  • !
    There security blanket is their guns. They are smart enough to prepare for the worst. It might not happen but I'd rather have guns and not need them than not have guns but need them.
  • !
    @Knightmare Of course Mubarak worried about being ousted. Look at the resent history of the region. Same goes for the people of Syria and the Israelis. I don't worry about things like that in Central Oregon. I'm much more worried about running into a deer driving at dusk, having a heart attack or getting cancer because those things are much more likely to happen than getting killed in a terrorist attack. And to tell the truth I don't worry too much about them either. I just try to be careful driving at night and behave sensibly (or at least my wife tries to make me).
  • !
    @acg The last study I saw on guns (and I'm too lazy to try to find it right now so the details may not be exact) showed that a gun is 42 times more likely to be used to kill or injure someone known to the gun owner than a bad guy. If this even remotely accurate then you would be better served to avoid guns than to have them close. In my life I have know 2 people who accidentally wounded themselves cleaning guns, went to high school with a girl whose father killed the rest of her family and shot her in the head (she was incredibly fortunate to be alive), and knew a guy who killed his family with a gun and then himself. I don't know anyone who shot an intruder or other bad guy. Your mileage may vary.
  • !
    @PNWest
    You need to check your statistics because that is incorrect. If you think guns are bad you should look up how many people are killed with knives, baseball bats and cars(drunk driving). They all have one thing in common. These items are all used in more murders than guns. Plus I know many people who would disagree with you including some police officers.

    At least the guy appears to be on the right track with regard to climate change and future economic collapse. Hurricanes and tornadoes may not be the most significant consequences of climate change, yet the overall destabilizing effect of climate change will reek havoc on our economy and way of life. The economy is destined to fail simply because it is wholly dependent on continuous, never ending growth. A condition which is not sustainable.

    so, are you glad you DON'T have a sister or an aunt??? What? Is your grandma out of the loop too? Or your female cousins and nieces? I'm really ticked now! Grrrr!*grin*
  • !
    @DogLady_1 Well you got me there, Both of my sisters are deceased, i have one surviving aunt out of eight, both of my grandmothers are deceased, i have ten female cousins and one neice and i'm happy i have them also!
  • !
    @zeke - oh, but you don't care much for your female co-workers, friends and neighbors, eh???(sorry, can't help myself in pointing out how petty people can be about how the POTUS refers to women... LOL)
  • !
    @DogLady_1 I see your point and i agree, for where would the world be without the influence of women, it would be a sad place indeed!

    All you had to do was listen to the State of the Union address last Tuesday and you can see the lack of leadership our country suffers. A country with little or no leadership is destined for failure. Our only hope is that the right decisions are made to oppose Barack Husssein Obama and his cronies. They will stoop to any low to get their agenda pushed thru.
  • !
    I believe it, with how much 0bama and CONgress has racked up in debt (especially since 2007 on), I see it as only a matter of time before these countries we owe money to (i.e. China) start calling it in on debt. Fortunately for me, I already have my firearms and plenty of ammo.
  • !
    Wayne "peppy le pew" LaPierre comments aside, the main reason we need guns is because the 2nd Amendment of U.S. Constitution enumerates a right to keep and bear arms, a right that shall not be infringed.
  • !
    @Russell797
    Yes, unless there is a compelling state interest, which there is not. Motor vehicle deaths top gun deaths by 4 to1. That might justify some action, and it is a privilege not a right that will be dealt with. Should be easy to cut motor vehicle deaths in half in one year. Would still be double gun deaths but a great start at getting something significant done.
  • !
    @WMCOL Motor vehicles present a net positive to society. Guns present a net negative. Motor vehicles make the world go round. You need guns to protect yourself from others with guns which results in a net loss of life.
