The puffy white food packaging would go the way of trans-fats and large sodas in the takeout and delivery capital

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg would like to get plastic foam food containers "to go." For good.
After outlawing trans-fats in restaurants, smoking in parks, and extra large sodas, Bloomberg has called for a city-wide ban on plastic foam food packaging.
"One product that is virtually impossible to recycle and never bio-degrades is plastic foam," said Bloomberg in his State of the City address this week. "Something that we know is environmentally destructive and that may be hazardous to our health, that is costing taxpayers money and that we can easily do without, and is something that should go the way of lead paint."
Plastic foam accounts for an estimated 20,000 tons of the city's annual waste, according to the Mayor's office. If the idea is approved by the city council, New York City would join Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle in banning plastic foam containers, Bloomberg News reports
