Dr. Ben Carson, the neurosurgeon who surprised folks with his critical and decidedly conservative remarks at this year's National Prayer Breakfast, won't rule out a bid for political office one day. Especially seeing as how some, like the folks at the Wall Street Journal, believe him fit for the presidency too.

"The Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon may not be politically correct," reads the piece bluntly entitled "Ben Carson for President," "but he's closer to correct than we've heard in years."

"There are a number of policies that I don't believe lead to the growth of our nation and don't lead to the elevation of our nation," Carson told ABC News Sunday. As for the outcome to his political ambitions, which he confessed to harboring, well that's something he'd "leave up to God."

As Real Clear Politics details, Carson's biography makes the perfect pauper-to-prince back story for a potential GOP presidential candidate:

Ben Carson was reared in inner-city Detroit by a mother who made time to parent despite working 18-hour days. The books his mom made him read eventually sparked a love of learning in young Ben. He's among America's 20 foremost physicians and scientists, according to CNN; a "living legend," according to the Library of Congress.

    Let me translate for Neo. If Carson runs as a Tea Party member Neo could absolutely get behind him. If he runs as a Karl Rove Republican, Neo is still on Board. If he runs as a Neo Nazi, Neo has his back. If he runs as a Libertarian Neo is still in the house. If he runs as a Democrat? Neo is nowhere to be found. That's about cover it Neo?

    @jessejaymes No, he doesn't like Libertarians either. He can agree with their Fiscal ideas, but when they start talking about allowing everyone the same freedom's, he gets off that plane.

    @Fishbone345 Yeah but you have to admit he's only adamant about one thing and that's his dsilike for Liberals. I mean not once have I read the guy say he refuses to shop at Walmart because they are China's number one customer. Hell I refuse to shop at Walmart for that very reason. But Neo is consistently on the trail of Liberals and very little else.

    @LGRepublican I don't think that's necessarily a good thing. I think we constantly need choices made within both major parties. I think the partly line goosestepping has to stop. You may not agree with moving to the middle but if we're ever going to get spending under control both parties are going to have to stop the BS on the social issues and make financial issues the primary concern for a number of consecutive years. That can only come from within both parties and that means conservative democrats and liberal republicans.

    If Obama had the credentials & respect this man had - they would want him on Rushmore prior to the election.

    A new savour for whom: Self hating AA's? The Tea Party?( note Neo's not too sure). Could or would any conservatives rally round and advocate for an AA? Dr Peep has illustrated he's certainly intelligent, undeniably but a political light weight devoid of forein policy exposure. ALSO There are so many AA GOP members of congress =#2, neither elected, both appointed. I can't see a future with the Conservative dominated GOP

    Instead of commenting on Mr. Carson, I wonder who's "flag" the press will run up the presidential flag pole?
    Give Politix your next Presidential "flag bearer" and a (very) brief statement as to why you think that person is a legitimate candidate........

    If he runs for the GOP nomination, he will be bulldozed by the Republican establishment...if he runs on a third party ticket and has enough backing, he could seriously scare the crap out of Repubs and Democrats alike...

    If they do I think it will backfire. He makes too much sense. He doesn't bluster or make outrageous remarks. He simply tells it like it is. I really like him.

    One thing I will say is, I praise Dr. Ben Carson's mother. I wish more Detroit mothers were like his. Maybe the crime rate would go down, along with the poverty and unemployment rate, therefore lowering the need for entitlements and allowing a once proud city to be proud again. So sad that this woman is held up as an icon for inner city mothers all across the country.

    On the other hand, a doctor in the White House might be what we need. We've had lawyers, plenty of them, and we see what they do. A doctor is used to prescribing a cure that the patient might not want and might fight against, yet a good doctor sees his patient all the way through treatment until the patient recovers. Doctors don't think short term, they think long term. They don't think "feel good", they think "healthy". Not sure this Ben Carson guy is the right guy for the job, but he sounds much better than the oaf we have in office now.

    Why would that be, I wonder. This guy is not a threat to anyone already in office. If not for that one speech, which was remarkably weird, nobody outside the political junkie arena would even know his name.

    @NTBFW Au contraire. Dr Carson is precisely the same as everybody else who's free with advice on topics in which they have no expertise. As for the "no bs" - really, we're talking about a creationist here. That's as bs as it gets.

    Ben Carson is the Democrat's worse nightmare. They could no longer spew their lies of how the GOP is racist. He is a black man with conservative credentials and a very smart person. I only wish more churches and conservatives had the guts to stand up to a Socialist controlling president like he did. Way to go Ben!

    I'd back him if stays true to a fiscal conservative cause. If he does run it will be interesting to see if he has any other ideas that would give the left ammunition. The media and left wing politicians will definately try to destroy him. I wonder if left leaning voters will follow suit?

Since he didn't have an involved father while growing up, doesn't that make him more likely to commit gun violence? It will take more than one speech to make me back anyone for President, but someone who says that his political future is "up to God" rather than the voters is already starting in the negative as far as I'm concerned.

    The nation needs a leader, not a doctor.

    On the other hand, it would probably assure a Democratic victory again if he did run.

    His story is amazing, he is one of 24 children...his mother only had a third grade
    education and wasn't really literate, but she encouraged all her kids to read & do
    homework, and though she could not read, she pretended she could and would
    put a check mark on their papers so they would think she had checked them over.
    I doubt she ever believed it possible that her son would become a pediatric neuro- surgeon at one of the most prestigious hospitals in the US. What an inspirational story that should inspire the most cynical person.Truly an admirable
    man, with an incredibly smart and caring mom. Touching...

    He's got a great work history, but it remains to be seen what his proposed policies truly are. Until then I can't be against or for him.
