Washington Democrats have unleashed a whole world of internet wrath on themselves by proposing a bill that would require semi-automatic gun owners to undergo random inspections of their home by a sheriff.
In fact, the provision has even Washington Democrats all riled up. "They always say, we'll never go house to house to take your guns away. But then you see this, and you have to wonder," said Seattle trial lawyer Lance Palmer to the Seattle Times. "I'm a liberal Democrat - I've voted for only one Republican in my life," he explained. "But now I understand why my right-wing opponents worry about having to fight a government takeover." The provision is clearly targeted at Adam Lanza type shootings, which involve the killer accessing semi-automatic weapons in his home. It would allow the sheriff to inspect whether gun owners had taken adequate steps to "safely and securely store the assault weapon."
Adding injury to insult, the proposed bill, SB 5737, would prohibit the sale of assault weapons with detachable magazines and magazines holding over 10 rounds.
The bill has already been amended today to remove the offending provision. You can read the original bill text here. Democratic legislators have blamed "unnamed staff" for the house search provision.Via the Blaze and the Seattle Times.
