Jane Fonda turned media mogul Ted Turner into a liberal, says his son, who is running for Congress as a Republican in South Carolina.
"I was raised in a different time at the Turner household ... a very conservative household with capitalism and all of that kind of stuff," Teddy Turner said about early life with his Dad, who founded CNN and once owned the Atlanta Braves.
Teddy Turner, who faces former Gov. Mark Sanford in a Republican primary, appears to be going out of his way to distance himself politically from his father. Fox reports that he said at a recent Republican gathering: "Yes, I'm Teddy Turner. You can't pick your parents."
Fonda, the actress and workout guru, once got the nickname "Hanoi Jane" for posing with a Viet Cong anti-aircraft gun in a protest against the Vietnam War.
"He started becoming more and more environmentalist and then Jane helped move things over as well," Turner said about his Dad. "Then when you start hanging around and everybody you're hanging around with is liberal, then you tend to move more liberal.''
