That's not the question is it? There are restrictions in every state on where you can carry concealed. And if you think for a moment Chicago's gangsta give a red rats ass whether they can carry concealed or not I have a bridge you might like to buy.
  • !
@stepped_in_it Got some that might be called solid land if you brought in a few hundred thousand trucks of soil. No biggie. Just needs a little mopping up.

All this is really doing is showing a total lack of respect for the majority of illinois residents by the corrupt intrenched self rightous goverment. When they show this kind of contempt for their conconstituents, there can be NO good reason to keep them in office.
  • !
No...not really. The gun violence in Chicago is mostly gang-related. Even if every citizen in Chicago carried a gun...There would still be this (or more) gun violence there...You Betcha!
  • !
@Sonny you should look at the UK's crime statistics since their gun ban in 1997. Within 4 years their violent crime rate more than doubled, and they are now amongst the world's highest violent crime rate nations (they're either ranked #1 or 2). The US, by comparison, isn't even ranked in the top 10 nations for violent crime, has the #1 gun ownership rate in the world, and is ranked only #28 in the globe for gun violence.
  • !
@Sonny And never forget, almost a hundred or so unarmed people couldn't prevent people with box-cutters from hijacking airplanes.
9/11 is what happens when you take away guns and people still have knives.
Not that people should carry guns on aircraft, just sayin.
  • !
@Sonny And what do gangs use to commit their violent acts with?!!Ding Ding Ding!! Firearms!!....You Betcha!!!

The bottom line is, everyone should at least have the chance and opportunity to choose if and how they want to defend themself.
  • !
It didn't stop Charles Whitman, it didn't stop them in Alabama, and it didn't stop them in Mississippi.
A nutter doesn't think things through logically, if they did they wouldn't think there was nothing wrong with murder. The same reason they are killing people in the first place is why this is not true.
  • !
    @Fishbone345

If they don't care, so be it, but concealed carriers would have a chance of stopping them before the lunatic increases their total victim count.

@Meanie Notice how Bobo discusses what I said with me before assuming I'm a Gun Control person. I miss Bobo. One of the real thinkers of this site.
  • !
@Bobolinsky Possibly. I'm more convinced he chose it because of the movie playing. He thinks he is a Batman villain. Not exactly the stable of sanity that one.

Howdy partners! Yep, lets just head back to the ol' west when times were simpler and you could tote your hogleg to the saloon and the church, doc's office and classrooms. Yeeee ha! We some scared cowboys now!
  • !
Yeah, except little known historical fact that BOTH sides of the gun control debate miss (especially those who use the wild west thing to make fun of gun owners) in most wild west communities you were NOT allowed to carry your guns in town, the image of everybody and their brother carrying is a hollywood fiction.
  • !
    @Real4WheelDrv

Those who make fun with the wild west cliche are the same ignorant fools who have no knowledge on the topic and simply opine from their weak emotional mindset.
  • !
Well, instead of the old west, we have Chitcago where the hoodlums carry wherever they want, with no sheriff to make them check their guns in.
  • !
I love blowing this argument apart with one simple web address
    http://www.wnd.com/2007/04/41196/
The title reads 25 years murder free in gun town USA a town outside Atlanta where guns are..,, gasp, mandatory and just look at that astronomically high murder rate unlike Morton grove ill. Who banned handguns and their crime rate plummeted..,,. Oh wait, no, that's the exact reverse of what happened gun crime and murder plummeted in kennesaw and its pop. Exploded while Morton groves went up an its pop. Stagnated but what do us dumb redneck cowboys know
  • !
@Robbo03712 Actually guns are not mandatory in Kennesaw, I used to live 5 miles from there. You had to have a permit to own a gun to get a deed to a house. Kennesaw is a very small town. Its more about the retailer test-marketing mecca that it is, so there wouldn't be a lot crime surrounding a highly concentrated area of retail, for the corporations to make a more stable assessment to the value of their business ventures. They couldn't have their prospective customer being robbed could they?

@martydotcom I don't believe you can prove I've ever said anything like that. But even if I did, welfare is not a right. Why are you so set on ignoring the constitution? That's the real question.
  • !
@martydotcom Lets apply your standards to voters also. We should apply blanket tests equally. What other constitutional right requires evals and background checks? I have no issue about drug tests....i've passed all of them i've been given.
  • !
@NTBFW referred to the generic right wing, not you specifically -apologies
" we'll regulated ". not ignoring constitution What happened to common sense?
Have we lost out minds not implementing universal background checks and mandatory training
  • !
@martydotcom I have explained my position on universal background checks. I'm sure you've read them. You have even commented on the thread. Do I need to say it again? I don't mind. I know you have issues comprehending things.

There are obvious places firearms don't belong - operating rooms, for example, and locked psychiatric units. The Oval Office comes to mind, too.

As an aside, a federal appeals court has ruled that concealed carry permits are not protected by the 2nd amendment. http://goo.gl/OqZrd
  • !
I'd like to see concealed carry the law of the land......without a permit. I believe I have a right to life and the ability to protect such in public. I can think of a few places guns don't belong also...like your examples.
  • !
@AlexMIA You might be surprised about what a surgeon will do in the OR, but I was thinking more of the prison guards in Canon City, Colorado, the closest facility to the federal Supermax prison. The guards insisted anesthetized and unconscious prisoners in the OR be handcuffed to the OR table and that an armed guard be present in the room.
  • !
@DARSB If the offender is a high profile prisoner yes they need to have armed correctional officers. Federal Supremacy sounds pretty high risk to me for the armed guards.

There are places concealed carry shouldn't be aloud. Bars, crouded stadiums, courts, government buildings, police stations, airports. Restaurants, comuter trains, hospitals, schools, not so much.
  • !
I see no problem with carrying ANYWHERE. If they say you are responsible enough to carry concealed, then why not carry where ever you choose?
  • !
I'll disagree about some of your locations. Let me explain about bars first. If one is consuming alcohol they should not be carrying in a bar or anywhere for that matter.. However....if a patron is not consuming alcohol in a bar or restaurant I believe they should be allowed to carry. I also don't have an issue with trains, buses or gov't buildings. If a gov't building offers armed protection at the entrance than I have no issue disarming. Basically if I have a lawful right to be in a location it should not necessitate me disarming unless they offer armed protection.
  • !
@Meanie Well, there are obvious reasons why you can't board a plane armed. Bars are places where people may get drunk and judgement may be lowered and stadiums are to full of people, even in the worst possible senario where a big brawl, riot, or mass panic may occur it would not be in your best interest to use a gun. You don't know who you will hit, and it will not stop a brawl or riot. You may end up with an empty gun and a bunch of people pissed off wanting to tare you apart.
  • !
@Medicinebow I never agreed with restaurants or trains. If you are not drinking why be at a bar. I wouldn't want to be the guy that shot a drunk unless I absolutely had to. But then again I've never over drank at a bar or disarmed at one either. I would still wonder if others have the same control. After all, this is being debated because some people obviously have less control than others, to them I say your judgement, your time, your responsability.

When( not if concealed )carry is allowed in Illinois those killed or wounded will be far fewer law abiding citizens.Watch if the murder rate does actually decline..Keep tract of the numbers when Concealed carry goes into affect and get back to me.
  • !
When concealed carry is approved and talking about non-law abiding citizens, get use to the thought of kill instead of wound and get lots of training. The biggest problem law abiding citizens will have as in most anti-gun liberal areas is that you may be held liable for the criminals medical expensess and disability even though they were in the commision of a crime.

I visit Chicago twice a month. I deserve the right to carry a weapon while I'm there. It's a very dangerous place and our law enforcement and government can't help me. I prefer to take care of myself anyways!
  • !
Should there be restrictions on where people can carry concealed weapons?
I say "Only Bars" where people are getting drunk.
In AZ I carry everyday, every place I go.
I am a legal citizen with a Military/Law enforcement background.
    I carry a Colt 1911.
  • !
I voted yes, but for obvious places. Government facilities, airports, bars, stadiums. Places where security is already high or places where people become dangers to themselves.
  • !
So what about a person's home. At my home, My wife and I are the only one that carries. My home. My rules. Don't care what the law says. If one doesn't like it. Go somewhere else.
  • !
@AnnieO I generally don't invite a lot of people over. But due to my wife's profession, we have to entertain occasionally. I just make it know that no weapons are allowed since AZ allows for concealed weapons.

Well, being from Illinois I don't expect much to change. And of course the state is going to do whatever they can to stall stall stall.
  • !
It is high time that the feds take down the mafia controlled goverment of illinois. It would seem that just about everything about illinois goverment could qualify for rico application?
