Guns or butter? How about guns or tickets to see the fabulous Beyonce?

The Daily Caller alerts us to a gun buyback program being pushed by New York hip-hop mogul Michael "Blue" Williams that would have cops offering concert tickets to see the likes of Jay-Z and Beyonce in exchange for firearms. Williams just needs to convince NYPD Police Commissioner Ray Kelly to OK it first.

"Our goal is to reach out to individuals who are in my industry, in my world and who I have an association with and get their support," stated Williams. As for Kelly, well he appears receptive to the "Guns for Greatness" program:

"We want to get as many guns off the streets, and if this works, we'd like to support it," said Kelly, who also claimed he'd only go forward with the plan if police officers were present at the time and place of the exchange. "You need police officers present; you'd need the expertise."

@DARSB - Nah. It will be the teen doing the leg work, turning it over to the older "friend" that scores the ticket. But that's the nit-picking details. Anyone that has laid out full price for a weapon sure isn't going to cash it in for a $40 (overpriced) Beyonce Lip-Singalong concert.(Let's see. I spent $500 on my Glock19...and if I give it to dude, I can get a free Beyonce-ish "concert ticket" for some time in the future. WHAT A DEAL!!) Any way you go about it, it's a pretty weak idea.

@PoliticalSpice If I were to ponder trading in my firearms, it would have to be at full value. Sorry, but no concert ticket would ever come close. Hey, the free market in firearms today dictate those terms. Six years ago I purchased my AR15 at $1400. I could easily get $3000 for it today. I also have Taurus (now that one would maybe be worth a concert ticket...lol), a 1911, and a Glock 19. Besides the Taurus, I could make money off the other two.

I think this a fantastic idea. The thing that most of the comments on here that I glossed were missing, is that gun buyback programs are /voluntary/. You don't /have/ to turn in your guns unless you actually want to.

As for the idea of giving out tickets, why the hell not? Money worked well enough, but if celebrities are wanting to contribute to removing guns from their old neighbourhoods, or any neighbourhoods, then power to them!

Isn't this what Republicans want? Less government involvement and more private involvement!

Gun Buy Back is a Stupid idea from the start.... Someone goes out and commits murder with a stolen gun, takes the gun to a buy back program and gets paid for the murder weapon that is then destroyed by the police getting rid of the evidence of the murder....
