u 6 hr jerbear v Yes, it should About a month after having gone through a 5 bi-pass heart surgery, I had to go to the hospital for a test. I was to be there about 30 minutes. As I approached the front door, a few people were outside smoking, no smoking allowed in that hospital. Well as I walked about 12 feet through the polluted air, suddenly I became very dizzy, short of breath, and fainted, I coded in the door way and woke up in ICU. Several times in restaurants I have had to leave because of second hand smoke. The Hospital where I landed in ICU said that several people every day had bad problems because of second hand smoke. They finally made the smokers go to a out door area far from the b... Post
u 15 hr KW900A v No, it shouldn't like most said.... and especially here in NYS its already banned every other place except your own property or designated smoking areas, unless you want a stiff fine, cant even smoke in your personal vehicle with a child in it ( which is reasonably to understand) and I don't even smoke, but I have a problem with people constantly taking away our right as US citizens in this " free" country Post
Mon john32644 v Yes, it should Freedom is for people who act responsibly. We give up our freedom to the extent people act irresponsibly. Hence, speed limit laws and arrests, drunk driving laws and arrests, etc. Smokers act extremely irresponsibly. They subject their friends and family to a hostile breathing situation. The basic needs of humans are food, water and air. Smokers directly interfere with the last basic need, clean air for themselves and others unfortunate enough to be in their immediate family or social group. As long as there is fresh air to breath and you don't have to smell it or get nauseous from it, let smoke... u Jun 16 MerriAnnie And I should add, I have never smoked, but I grew up with it in the household. I have asthma and two of my sisters died of lung cancer. I simply don't think it should be banned as long as they keep it away from me and my kids. Banning cigarettes would be as successful as banning alcohol. Let's be smarter than that. @MerriAnnie Post

Jun 14 chrisbauman v I have mixed feelings here going as far as this is an overstep by the government but should ban the use of this in public places similar to marijuana usage Post
u Jun 13 meyc v No, it shouldn't It should never be banned. Again against our constitution and bill of rights. Don't people know that Adolf Hitler was the first to impose the first NO Smoking Ban but the troops were allowed methamphetamines. Post
u Jun 13 Bambi v No, it shouldn't My husband smokes and I used to over 20 years ago. It's a bad, smelly habit and very expensive as well. I don't agree with the nanny state taking people's rights away from them, even this nasty habit. Post
u Jun 13 Pack7 v No, it shouldn't Why would we want to ban smoking and then legalize marijuana? Marijuana is just as bad as cigarettes although potheads will tell you it isn't. This is an example of how screwed up we are in this country. Post
Jun 12 Batwoman693 v I have mixed feelings here That's a tough one. As an American, you have a right to smoke cigarrettes, but you also have a right not to be smothered by the cigarette smoke of others. Maybe instead of banning smoking altogether, it could be restricted to certain areas. We've already got it out of restraunts, so basically taking it out of public indoor areas would be a good start and maybe an end. Post
Jun 12 pattianne v No, it shouldn't If you ban enough things people do, you may as well start banning people. They're the perpetrators. ;) Post
u Jun 12 leelee v Yes, it should I have tried everything to stop smoking from the pill, patch and even hypnosis but nothing seems to help. I've tried the electronic cigarettes but nothing. I am currently trying to ween off and a pack last me 3 days. I hate the smell and taste. The only way for me to stop is for them to become unavailable. r1 reply Post
Jun 12 pattianne That's not true and the sooner you realize that, the faster you'll stop smoking. Your freedom to light up is balanced by another freedom you are forgetting. Every time you think you want to light up, you are free to say no, not this time. The more you practice that freedom, the faster you'll quit. It's quite liberating. Been there. @pattianne Post

Jun 10 Will_Rogers v Yes, it should A few years ago I would have said Hell no, I smoked Pall Mall non filter for 45 years give or take. During that time I would have fought tooth and nail to keep my smokes. But like old man 75 (older than me by the way) I have COPD, I'm on oxygen almost 24_7. I have had part of my right lung removed in 2005. The tobacco companies have a license to kill. Smokers you are paying them to do it with every pack of smokes you buy!!! I wouldn't wish what I am going thru on my worse enemy. QUIT DO WHAT EVER IT TAKES. I LOVE YOU ALL B1 r1 reply Post
u Jun 10 lochlomond v No, it shouldn't When the Clinton administration went full speed ahead to fine tobacco companies in order to increase revenue, there was a health segment on the evening news, local and national, blaming cigaret smoking for everything from the birth of mentally challenged infants to nearsightedness. According to these studies, tobacco use was a gateway hard drug use, caused ADDHD and was a factor in delinquent behavior on the part of teenagers and young adults. Of course, most of the studies were government funded. Consequently, Bill Clinton pulled off one of the greatest scams in US history, appropriating billions for the federal treasury while also enabling the states to get their pie... Post

Mar '13 PayThatCEO v No, it shouldn't It IS banned. It's banned in most public places, offices, restaurants, schools, etc. Now are we talking "banned" or illegal? Sure, let's put another product on the "illegal" list so we can waste law enforcement time and resources chasing down and arresting smokers. For God's sake, can we mind our own business these days? If someone wants to smoke I don't give a rat's ugly butt. It's their lungs. If I happen to get a whiff of their smoke I'm not going to freak out and have a tantrum. I was raised during a time when every adult smoked everywhere. Nothing worse than being a little kid trapped in the car with the windows up and two smoking parents, but I lived through it.... Mar '13 Ryuo v I have mixed feelings here Smoking is unique among drugs in directly harming bystanders, so a good case can be made for banning it. However, our government would screw up the enforcement of it, so I'd settle for keeping it out of public places, including ventilation shafts. B1 e20 endorsed Post
