Maxine Waters' overstatement of sequester-related job losses is getting a lot of airplay among conservatives as evidence of the left's mania for sequestration hype.

"We don't need to be having something like sequestration that's going to cause these job losses - " over 170 million jobs that could be lost," Waters told a press conference held in conjunction with other congress members. Alas for Waters, there are only 143 million jobs in total in the entire US.

Conservatives have fallen gleefully on Waters' remarks, and as a result her name is now trending on Twitter. "'Maxine Waters: Over 170 Million Jobs Could Be Lost Due To Sequestration.' And Bob Woodward is senile?" tweeted ConservativeLA.

Her position as ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee has come in for some snark too: "Maxine Waters, House Financial Services Committee member says 20M more jobs lost due to sequestration than people employed. Brilliant!" tweeted Ron4Right.

    Well if this is the math that progressive liberals are using it explains why they don't understand the concept of cutting spending.....{sigh}.....wonder if she passed any of her math classes or did they just pass her along school as they usually do?

    If we can cut even 17,000 of worthless duplicated Govt Emp jobs because of the Sequester then Bravo. At least we own THAT MUCH to our children.

    @PoliticalSpice - shouldn't we all be employed under socialism? We'd have the foreman, the foreman's assistant, The hammerer, the nail holder for the hammerer, two guys to screw (except in CA)- one to hold the screw and the otherr to turn the board. The coffee deliverer, the donut getter, two people to sweep, etc... We could all have jobs!

    170 million jobs lost? HAHAHHAHA Where, in China? There aren't that many employed in the entire US more than likely. Oh heaven's days, we're all gonna be outa work! Will ANY of those jobs be politicians????????

    Bingo! They ARE the problem. Send congress home. If they only had one week a year to pass more draconian laws, then perhaps they'd actually have to tackle the real issues, and come up with real solutions. Although more than likely they'd pass a thousand laws in a week, and "then read them to find out what's in it."

    Sow panic? That can only happen among those who are ignorant enough to think Waters is in possession of the facts. There aren't 170 million people employed in this country right now! She is predicting the loss of everyone's jobs. Do you people at Politix not understand what a foolish statement she has made? Total employment in 2007 was 138 million jobs. Good grief but low information voters and Congress people abound.

    Of interest, the Senate Republicans' response to these poorly planned across the board cuts is to give the Executive Branch the power to decide where the cuts are to be made (under certain parameters). The bill is being soundly dismissed by the dems. How dare the GOP put this responsibility on the president's shoulders.

    @Medicinebow I have a medical marijuana card in california and just smoked a bowl but it's nowwhere near as good as what she's smoking apparently. The woman is a black female version of Boss Hogg in Hazzard county. NOTHING happens in her district unless some wheels get greased. She is one of the most corrupt people in America.

    I guess this means that not only every citizen in the United States is going to lose their jobs, but also undocumented workers and workers in other countries. I'm headed to the bar before the bartender gets fired.

    Let's see... The way the socialists figure unemployment, all that would have to happen is, 170 million people need to quit looking for work. By that, they wouldn't be counted among the "unemployed" anymore. Isn't that correct? If you've given up looking for a job, you're not counted as unemployed... That's how the socialists get over a 13% unemployment rate down to less than 9%.

    So one has to ask... Why do the socialists want it to appear as if the unemployment rate is going to go higher? It's not because they actually care... They just want the American people to keep writing them blank checks. Correct?

    This is what I mean by a dumbed down America. All that matters to almost 50% of the voters is the gov. checks at the 1st of the month.

    Lets see we just gave I think 30 million to Syrian rebels to kill each other at the stroke of a pen, but we can't transfer 30 million to our own people to assist in dealing with the sequester. I know it's far from the trillions they seem to be apart on but it does make one think where Obama's allegence is. Also the senate is already heading home today so no friday meeting is gonna happen, so I suggest that the 170 million that are to lose their jobs should include everyone on Capitol Hill. BTW I think she's full of it, and it is a scare tactic. We were surviving before Obama and his lap dogs, and we will survive without them. This will backfire in his face!
