Conservatives Push Boehner to Defund Obamacare

He could have done so last year by blocking budget resolution

Conservative congress members are urging Boehner and other house leaders to neuter Obama's healthcare law. Reps. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) and Jim Bridenstine (R-OK) have called on the speaker to defund Obamacare by refusing to pass any and all appropriations bills funding it.

Will Boehner do as they ask? The evidence suggests not. In the past two years, the speaker has overseen budget resolutions that actually fund Obamacare, as Breitbart's Matthew Boyle points out. Moreover, just this Sunday Boehner promised to avert government shutdown by extending the current continuing budget resolution until the end of 2013 (it's set to expire on March 27).

All of that rather undermines a claim made in 2011 by Boehner's spokesman, who said that the speaker was committed to overturning Obamacare using "every means at our disposal."

    @LukeVentura Repeal obamacare with a one sentence law reading "This statute amends medicare by deleting from it the words "over 65" and and repeals the affordable care act concurrently."

    Obama care was written to benefit big business such as insurance companies, and both parties get hefty donations from insurance and pharmaceutical companies. Americans want affordable healthcare, but requiring everyone to partake of a system that is broken will only make matters worse. Price regulation of pharmaceuticals, hospital and doctor care, and insurance premiums is the only thing that will help. Otherwise the gap between good and affordable healthcare will widen, to where only the rich can afford the good places and plans, and everyone else is stuck in government run hospitals, and anyone who has been to eastern Europe or many South American countries know how bad government healthcare is.

    That was my problem with Obamacare from the beginning. It didn't do a thing about about what is runamuck medical costs- all it did was make someone more money. No improvement. Just more cost.

So, with the new program, we need to focus on HEALTH AND WELLNESS instead of mere medical care. Disease prevention, health management education for people with chronic illness, and wellness programs will all reduce the amount we spend on medical care which merely treats a disease once you're already sick. There are too many people in this country dying from preventable diseases... and poverty is a death sentence. A healthy workforce is a more productive workforce. A medically treated workforce is far less productive, and that is what we have today. And health and wellness programs cost far less...

    @DogLady_1 Agree! But we cannot have the government behind it, because they are all in the pocket of someone. Take for instance the governments stance on a high-carbohydrate diet, which they have been pushing since the 1960s, and this has been the biggest factor that has led to the rampant obesity problem in the US. They push a high carb diet because of big money in corn, wheat, soybean, etc. and also because it's part of Agenda 21, and more people can be fed on plant based foods rather than a healthier meat oriented diet. People have got to quit looking to the governement for soulutions, as they are the source of most problems.

    @justapirate What it did was replace the admirable goal of getting health care for all, with a liberal half measure to force people to fork money over to private insurance companies. These beuracracies add about 30% to the cost of medical care without contributing anything but paperwork by non medical personel. If they were eliminated medical cost would go down.

How do you suppose we could implement health and wellness programs without including the gov't? Do you suppose doctors, Big Pharma and hospital corporations would want to spearhead such a change?

    Disagree, just charge cash only for services. Don't think it will work? Look at Boob jobs or Lasik surgery or even dental services. There is no need for insurance companies if you get them and the goverment out of it. Two individuals can make deals all day long, add another person to that equation and the costs go up.

    @ST_Louie_Sue I'm talking about working out a deal between you and the doctor, no one else involved. That will drive the costs down. Just look at all the people who have issues with cancer, and apply free market principples. With that many people needing the service the cost of the service will go down due to the number of people needing it. Get the insurance companies and the goverment out of it, they are driving the costs up.

    @formerrepub When a Tylenol costs $8 a piece we're still getting screwed. How we gonna get the prices down on that? The pharma co's inflate those costs to cover "research" and lab fees.

    The way things appear to be going, obama care will defund itself by bankrupting the country. Already, the IRS is adding tax increases to to compensate for the shortfalls.Stay tuned, there will be more to come.

    Too many reasons. First, Bonher has to find a away to get democrats and republicans to work together. Also, Obamacare will crumble all by itself. Then both parties will get rid of it when the democrats see how badly it is failing. If they want to keep their jobs, they'll do away with it. Also despite being the speaker of the house, he is only one man. The republicans can't tell one man to do this. If this is what they want, they have to do it together. It's their votes that make the majority of the house, not Bonher alone.

    Excellent analysis. The right wingers continue to call Obama stupid but he has outsmarted them every step of the way. The idea that Boehner would try to defund Obamacare again is ludicrous. Instead of working for the public good, Boehner and his gang of incompetents tried and failed 33 times to get rid of Obamacare during the last session.

    i never liked the idea of being threatened into buying insurance even though i already buy my own. the only folks this was not going to bother would be those who get everything free already,and we have to pay more for the prevledge.

    Our government was intended to be a servant of the people in this country, not a ruler over them. Obama needs to get ths lesson driven home.

    Health and hospitalization insurance must have seemed like a good idea at the time. I'm referring to the time that such insurance first came into existence. Such insurance has led to huge price increases in the cost of health care. My people cannot afford to see a doctor, so we seek treatment elsewhere with people that are not licensed to provide it. Sometimes we take care of it ourselves. I've removed glass from my feet and sewn myself up more times than I have fingers and toes. It would be hard to explain just how useful superglue can be. Without the existence of health insurance, doctors would not be available in the number that they are now. Either few people would have the resources to pay the cost, or the cost would be low enough that people could afford it. Needless to say I do not support the existence of health and hospitalization insurance.

    1. It was an election year and that would have been the only issue in the media.
    2. Republicans and Democrats alike are puppets shilling for Big Med and Big Pharma and both parties are heavily invested.
    3. The bill is a tax and as such needs to be approached as the elimination of a tax rather than the elimination of some kind of magic, cure-all, insurance scam.

    More than 700 pages of healthcare rules released

    "The Obama administration on Friday released more than 700 pages of new regulations to implement portions of the Affordable Care Act.

    "The FOUR rules, which are scheduled for publication in mid-March, finalize both major and minor parts of the healthcare reform law that Congress passed in 2010."

    This is the cause of much conflict within the party.

    The teabaggers would defund the ACA at any cost, even shutting down the govt., while the Republicans who are funded by the healthcare industry want to keep it because that's what they were paid to do.

    Typical republicans...Always living in the past!...The ACA is the Law of the Land...They need to stop stamping their feet and pouting and just move on now...If they want repeal something they can start with the "patriot act". Then They can go on to re-establish "Glass-Steagall"---B ut they clearly prefer to just waste more of the people"s time!

    I want to vote you up 50 times on repeal of Patriot act and restoration of Glass-steagall. I support repeal of obamacare in a one line bill reading "This statute amends medicare by deleting the phrase "over 65" from the law and concurrently repeals the affordable health care act upon said amendment of medicare." That would be fine by me.

    If we can get a handle on the baby mommas that have five or six little bread winners, then medical cost for 'taxpayers' just might be affordable (without the affordable care act). We need to educate those same mommas about the use of a doctor's office v. emergency room when the babies get a cold.

    @PoliticalSpice The baby makers would never agree with you. Those births are 'planned'... Not for the love a child can bring, but for the rewards offered long before it is born. My son attends a local college with a $17,000 annual tuition while a chick down the road goes to the same school absolutely free. She's pregnant, of course.

    The Insurance companies, the campaign contributors to both parties, what to crash it soon. This is nothing but another bailout disguised as universal health care. They had no intention of caring for the people. Wake up sheep. This would have never worked.

    Defunding signed bills is not the way to go. Getting the bills removed is. Obamacare, while it went through some technical maneuvers is now law that we the people must pay for, like it or not (I hate it). However, there is a process to follow it. Using another maneuver only shows how manipulative these people are, and further erodes this country and their respective parties. Best idea, have an honest debate about the bill, and kick it out the door when the majority of Americans finally figure out it perpetuates most of the healthcare problems in this country.
