Fri OzarkOtter v Yes, it is The stereotype of what defines masculinity is being attacked, as well it should. The stereotype never really applied to the average male, anyway, since it was too tied up with the concept of being macho. However, real masculinity is resistant to attack because it is inherent in most men. Post

We need men and women to shed old roles some of which may have been necessary, most not, and create a new relationship between the sexes. We can no longer live under the idea of might makes right. u May 22 sspphoto v Yes, it is Masculinity may be under attack but dammit, mine is clearly NOT! In fact, I am taking testosterone supplements which are working well for me as I have newfound strength and my sexual libido is improving and I am 70 years old. Come on guys, get off of your asses and find testosterone treatments that will help you regain your masculinity to which you are fully entitled without the need of anybody's approval except your own! May 16 Hold_Please v Yes, it is Masculinity, the pride one feels in being a man and all that goes with it, has been under attack for some time now. How has this happened? By continuously re-defining what it means to be "masculine". We have a Society that fears and abhors those behaviors that go hand in hand with having an XY chromosome pair, and has been systematically attempting to shame them out. Now, let's get something straight, I'm not talking about sexism or misogyny. Placing oneself over another based on gender or race isn't being masculine. In that area, progress has been made, and for that I am happy. But let's look at the history of the male of the species - they were the explorers, the ris... Post

May 16 Hold_Please This isn't about sex roles, as there can be women who exhibit masculine traits. Masculinity isn't about gender, although it is more often exhibited by men than women and that comes down to genetics. Masculinity is a concept and it's often confused with Chauvinism. But make no mistake, the two are mutually exclusive. Masculinity has nothing to do with someone's attitude toward another person, save for if that person is an "enemy" on the field of sport or battle. Masculinity is pride in accomplishment and breaking new ground. Masculinity is about the need for discovery of the new, defending of those who need defense and the ability to overcome challenges. Masculinity is ... Post @Hold_Please
u May 16 songbird @Hold_Please I agree with you 100%. Unfortunately, the conservatives see masculinity as sexual dominance over women. That is why they feel masculinity is under attack. Post @songbird

u May 8 DemonsAngel13 v No, it's not This is an absolutely ridiculous question! If a "man" feels his masculinity is under attack that sounds to me like he has personal issues with his own "masculinity/femininity". This question is such a stupid open ended question to even pose on a political debate site, the question in it's self also poses so much ambiguity. WTF do you mean by saying is masculinity under attack anyway? It is such an ambiguous question. Have your people who write these questions just gotten really bored or have they just lost their minds? I myself am not an "extremist" in any manner I believe in a person being themselves, and it they feel that their "masculinity/femininity" is under "atta... Post

u Mar '13 GedankPol v Yes, it is It has been for a long time. Look at TV programs. Males are clueless. Hopelessly incompetent. Not able to make a bed, fix a simple meal, dress, etc. without the aid of his wife or girlfriend. Males are regularly slapped, punched, called idiot, and worse by women, even in animations. In short, all of the things that if a male did to a woman would earn him the sobriquet of "abusive man". In other ethnic/national origin groups, their males are stereotyped even worse. The stupidity is so widespread and pervasive that even the type of undershirts many men wear ALL OVER THE GLOBE is called "wife beater" by many when worn by any man who resides in the USA. It's called "double... B7 r3 replies e14 endorsed Post

Mar '13 GuyFawkes v No, it's not At times it seems masculinity is under attack from certain segments of society, but not always. People revere and need 'real' men, masculine men, and weak metrosexuals will never get that job done. It is my experience that women desire a MAN- not a pansy. Being a masculine man also means you're secure in that masculinity and are kindhearted, caring and thoughtful- not just a dumbo Brutus Beefcake.
