Cheney Admits He Lied About 9/11

Cheney has come clean about some his actions on 9/11 in a new Showtime documentary, The World According to Dick Cheney.

The veep reveals that he gave orders and generally acted like the president - but at the 9/11 Commission he pretended that Bush was in charge, as he admits on the show.

"I gave the instructions that we'd authorize our pilots to take it out," he reveals, speaking of United Flight 93, the hijacked plane that was crashed by its passengers into a Pennsylvania field.

That fact came out at the 9/11 commission in 2004, but this is the first time Cheney himself has admitted it.

The documentary also "reveals the Iago lengths that Cheney went to in order to manipulate the unprepared junior Bush," as Dowd puts it. "To make his crazy and appallingly costly detour from Osama to Saddam, and cherry-pick his fake case for invading Iraq, he played on W.'s fear of being lampooned as a wimp, as his father had been."

"If I had to do it over again, Cheney says, "I'd do it over in a minute."

    Why is this a story? I can guarantee you,12 yrs after the fact- we will NEVER be talking about the bold actions of Joe Biden. His idiocy yes, but not his leadership.

    Just wondering, if you can impeach over a blowjob and lying about it what about ordering a jetliner be shot down? Well, clearly nothng. Much like holding anyone accountable for outing a cia agent when you said publicly you'd fire the person responsible. Bush, you were a wimp. You were the american version of kim jong un. A petty little man who got where he is because of who his daddy was who was manipulated into trying to start world war 3 by his advisors who were older and smarter. Let's hope North Korea at least has the brains to put a bullet between the eyse of their lil bush 2.

    It is a bit off topic but how bad do you think the family of the person who donated Cheney's new heart must feel knowing that their loved one's heart is keeping this monster alive? I hope for their sake they don't know who the recipient was.

    @PNWest I didn't know they did organ implants replacements yes but it seems he never had one to begin with also I wonder how long after prognosis he had to wait (prob the next week)

    @PNWest - Cheney has a plastic heart that's doesn't pump but turns, he literally has no heartbeat. He is a soulless man, just look into his eyes, nothing but darkness.

    Hmmm.....curious.....fighter jets were sent {too late} against those that hit the towers.....what option would you rather have? A airplane be shot down or thousands of people being killed? Deciding to shoot the plane down would have been a natural and logical answer. You don't think they were going talk them down do you? I mean seriously.....

    I am not criticizing the actual decision. The President should have made it but the decision was the right one.
    The problem is that he lied about it just like he lied about Iraq.
    Of course he would do it again because he was thinking of Haliburton not Americans.

    When he only agreed to meet with the 9/11 commision (and not testify under oath) it was basicly assumed it was because he did not plan on giving them the truth.

    Question what does ordering to shoot down a hijacked plane have to do with Iraq?

    I mean, come on, two planes have hit the towers, one hits the pentagon, another one heading for the white house possibly.....what are you going to do? Talk down the terrorists? No, you authorize the plane to be shot down.

    He was right to give the order, as the fate of the passengers would have been the same in either outcome. I don't recall if the intended target of that plane was ever truly established: white house, pentagon, capital building. But given the pentagon and WTC were hit, its safe to assume the target was major. Besides, Bush W was in a classroom with kids, trying to understand the story being read. But had he Cheney reveal the order to begin with, I feel it would have been accepted by the American people as strategically the right thing to do. Thats is of course, if you believe the whole 911 attack was purely a terrorist one.

    Does that me he DID authorize the plane to be taken down? or that WE WOULD AUTHORIZE? Did he ever actually do it or is this Maureen Dowd's interpretation? Cheney surely isn't my favorite politician, but I'd like this clarified. Also...I would agree that he was the voice behind many of the president's decisions.

    I'm not sure if you are only asking if he authorized the shoot down or if you are asking if the plane was actually shot down. That is the question that I would like answered, because we were all told that a group of passengers rebelled against the hijackers and brought down the plane.

    @Dan_Tien ..I'm asking if Cheney authorized the take down. The way it's worded makes me think that he WOULD have if necessary. It is my understanding it was the passengers on the flight who took it down...maybe there's room for doubt.

    @ACTSmom If he lied about giving the go ahead, he might have lied about the aircraft being shot down as well. I've always been curious why there were no calls from passengers asking help to pilot the plane if they had successfully wrested control away from the hijackers. Instead, it went straight down in ah uninhabited area, which would have been the goal of shooting it down.

    Well that would explain why one engine from the aircraft was found far from the crash. There have always been "suspicions". Now do you have enough evidence to prepare a gallows? I wonder how many of those that thought the head dick was the best vice president ever will still back their "opinion'.

    Cheney must have Alzheimer's. Who in their right mind would want to claim credit for any of the decisions of the Bush Administration? You have to be real proud now if you voted for Bush II knowing that all you really did was vote for a puppet. Of course you had a bit of practice. Ronald Reagan was exactly the same.
