Muslims have denounced the Boston bombing suspects already, but now Boston's main mosques are going further, and have expressed unwillingness to grant dead terror suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev a Muslim funeral.
"I would not be willing to do a funeral for him," said Imam Talal Eid of the Islamic Institute of Boston, a group that often arranges funerals. "This is a person who deliberately killed people. There is no room for him as a Muslim. He already left the fold of Islam by doing that. In the Quran it says those who will kill innocent people, they will dwell in the hellfire."
"I don't think I could ethically lead a prayer for him, but I would not stop people from praying upon him," said Imam Suhaib Webb of Boston's largest mosque, which has the same owners as the Cambridge mosque attended by the brothers.
A representative from the Cambridge mosque said there has been "no contacts or discussion" about a funeral.
Imam Ikram ul Haq of the Masjid Al-Islam North Smithfield mosque "questioned if the suspects would be seen as truly Muslim considering the accusations against them," the Huffington Post reports.
The body will probably be released Tuesday morning to Tsarnaev's next-of-kin, in this case his wife Katherine Russell, mother of Tamerlan's 3-year-old daughter Zahara.
