May 15 jessejaymes v It can't be won Back in the 1970's people were sent to prison for 30 years to life for a couple of joints in the Bible Belt. How'd that work out for your war on drugs? There was a time when "drugs" meant things like Pot, LSD, Speed, Heroin and the odd fringe drug like Peyote. Today what was known as "speed" has morphed into a far dangerous drug called Meth. Because of the war on drugs. Things like battery acid are used in producing "Meth" because the former less harmful ingredients are no longer available. Marijuana is 10X's a potent as it was 40 years ago. But nobody dies from pot. They do die from the alternative substitute synthetic legal fake pot that goes around these days. ... Post

Count up all the people who profit from the drug trade, on both sides, and you'll see why the war on drugs will never end. Post

May 5 BEKennedy v It can't be won The only way to even get closer to winning is to legalize marijuana, tax it & distribute it. This will take away from the drug cartels but will show the people that our Government gives a little even though it takes away alot. Give ppl some rights rather than taking them away. Regain our confidence instead of losing it more. Plus I guarantee the revenue will produce at least $4 billion/day. Post
May 2 NoAmnestyEVER v It can't be won We can start by giving the death penalty to every illegal alien who carries drugs across the border, and that's about 99% of them. Post
May 1 Prime_Meridian v It can't be won I endorse just about everyone who voted "It Can't Be Won". Decriminalize drugs and we get to use the resources we're wasting now on prevention and treatment programs; we significantly reduce gun violence in inner-cities. According to CDC&P 8,900 of the murders in this country are committed by drug-dealing gang-bangers. We also reduce the corruption in government and the private sector that comes from drugs being illegal. We also give a body blow to the Mexican and Colombian drug cartels. Like many wrote, alcohol was 'banned' for 13 years. All it gave us was record violence, record corruption and the establishment of the Cosa Nostra in the USA with their branch... Post

Mar '13 teri v It can't be won I think that the money spent on the war on drugs most likely really goes to support other things like CIA black ops. People got smart and realized that even the government wasn't stupid enough to pay $500.00 for a hammer ( this is how are government used to cover money for covert actions). Now that the people are catching on to the phony war on drugs, I wonder what they will think up next? Post

Mar '12 ABartonHinkle K Editor and columnist, Richmond, Virginia, Times-Dispatch ... v It can't be won The way to win the war on drugs is to stop fighting it. People in recovery define insanity as trying the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. That also describes Americaâs approach to prohibition â first of alcohol, then of drugs. America is spending tens of billions a year putting drug users in prison, but barely denting drug use while actively enabling organized crime. Locking up addicts doesnât treat addiction. Letâs stop fighting the war and start fixing the wounded. B9 r3 replies e95 endorsed Post

u Mar '12 WhoYouGot v With better policies Why not legalize some drugs? It's a win win situation. Supply meets demand, prices go down. Government can regulate, while skimming some money. B1 e9 endorsed Post
u Jul '12 MellowGuy v Reduce American demand It's a medical problem. Treat those that use harmful drugs, and prosecute those that sell harmful drugs. And, don't let politicians decide what drugs are harmful -- it should be done by experts. r1 reply e9 endorsed Post
u Mar '12 SirVantes v It can't be won Every law needs a rational argument for it's purpose. Without that rational purpose it is simply trying to impose one group's morals on another. The drug laws have been proven purpose-less by both our experience of sinking billions into prohibition while consumption rises, as well as other nations (Denmark-Portugal) that have successfully legalized and taken control of their drug use. As long as mind-altering substances remain illegal they will remain out of control and kill more people than if they were legal to begin with. B1 r1 reply e8 endorsed Post
Jul '12 Mr_GO_HERD v With better policies Legalize marijuana and put that wasted money towards drugs that are actually harmful to users as well as those around them. Tylenol, cigarettes, caffeine, Ibuprofren, and a host of other legal drugs are far more dangerous in fact lethal if overdosed. Marijuana is not. e7 endorsed Post
May '12 killermrk v It can't be won With drug prohibition, American society is faced with two problems: A crime problem, and a public health problem. If you eliminate the prohibition, and release the oft non-violent offenders while introducing a system of regulation and taxation, you remove the crime problem by undermining the cartels who make their hay on the lucrative black markets leaving only a public health issue. This is easily fixed by opening more drug abuse clinics and making it easier for people to get back on their feet when drugs have knocked them down. Not to mention the billions upon billions of new tax revenue brought in after legalization. B1 e6 endorsed Post
Jul '12 Keyjo v It can't be won The way to win the war is to stop it. Legalize the popular drugs, tax and regulate their sales. We empower the cartels, the dealers, the gangs by keeping them illegal and driving up their value. Legalizing them and regulating them will cause the prices to dive while assuring the purity of the product. The tax dollars could go towards rehabilitation. (Hint: rehab only works when the participant is actually willing.) The "war on drugs" is a money pit! With what we spend on this WOD's , we could cover every American with health care and feed every hungry American child. And a healthy, well fed child is more likely to stay in school and learn and go on to be a productive,... B3 e2 endorsed Post
May '12 Iamjim42 v It can't be won The war on drugs is an unjust and unconstitutional war on productive, hardworking American citizens pushed by moralist zealots who wish to eliminate our right to put in our bodies whatever we wish.
