John Boehner authorized spending over $3 million dollars of taxpayer money in a failed attempt to preserve the Defense of Marriage Act, according to USA Today.
The spending has been ridiculed by liberal sources but defended by Boehner. "The House intervened in this case because the constitutionality of a law should be judged by the Court, not by the president unilaterally," he said in a statement. It's unclear why Boehner mentioned the president when in this cause the Supreme Court made the decision to strike down DOMA.
The battle against gay marriage is not over as far as many Republicans are concerned, though there are differences about the method. Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) says he'll push Congress to pass a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman. But Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) says the battle has been lost at the federal level, and encouraged Republicans to take the fight to their states.
@sevenSecrets Mr. Boehner you can spend 20 more millions dollars if that is needed to fight any concerns dealing with HOMOSEXUALS. Homosexuality is wrong and abnormal evil and should not be excepted by humanity.
In fact, the law specifically provides that state health exchanges may cover abortions unless the state enacts specific legislation prohibiting abortion coverage. Moreover, the law's requirement that insurance providers cover "preventive services" and preventative care are so broadly defined that they could be used to force coverage of abortions and abortion related drugs. Thus, all Americans are forced to purchase health insurance that could cover abortion and in some cases is required to cover abortion.
This pro-abortion law also opens the door to Planned Parenthood-run clinics in public middle schools and high schools, and specifically provides federal tax dollars to establish these clinics. ObamaCare provides grants for establishing "School-based Health Centers," which could be run by abortion organizations like Planned Parenthood. While the law prevents these clinics from being used to "provide" abortions, it encourages groups like Planned Parenthood to make abortion referrals.
"didn't spend 800 billion on senseless crap like someone else we know"
You're so vague that I don't know. Remember the govt doesn't spend a penny that congress didn't authorize. The Pres is the manager, but he doesn't write the budget, he carries it out. That means if you have a complaint, go talk to congress.
"It's unclear why Boehner mentioned the president when in this cause the Supreme Court made the decision to strike down DOMA. " What's unclear? He blamed Obama for his spending 3 million in an effort he knew was going to fail. How is blaming Obama for everything that goes wrong not clear at this point. It's the only play in the republican playbook. They have one answer to everything. It's Obama's fault.
@Bilgerat Who said obstructionism? I said it's the only thing they know how to do. It's their excuse for everything. You saw the article and my comment and thought republican obstructionism on your own. I suggest you take a moment and determine what made you think that thought and perhaps in a moment of reflection you'll come to a conclusion without my input on the matter.
LMAO yeah youd have to have blinders on not to see the Blame game in full effect with this one...haha Some guys will say anything to justify their actions.
on a crappy note they are all starting to do it.. I just believe they have different motives is all (I hope).. tbh tho...idk if im right anymore. I just know I want my kids to grow up free and withouot having to worry about the collapse of this great nation due to the personal interests of our Government (State and Federal)..
Standing in opposition to constructive personal choice that harms no one and the denial of which threatens heartbreak for millions is a poor use of taxpayer money. But it is a small amount of taxpayer money considering other expenses, yes.
I'm in a normal marriage which means I enjoyed sodomy on a regular basis at one time. That's just one of the many surprises marriage has waiting for gay couples. The fact that you and so many other citizens don't even seem to fully understand what constitutes sodomy is on it's own reason enough to discount your position completely.
Sodomy is EXTREMELY popular with straight people - or don't you get any sex at all ever? There are more straight people than gay people having oral sex. Also, it's 2013 - probably should have stopped calling it sodomy several hundred years ago.
@SamSpade Sodomy may be popular with Nu Yawkah yankees who like the opposite sex. BUT NOT WITH REAL MAINSTREAM AMERICANS OUTSIDE THE NORTHEAST IMMORAL BELT. To be specific, penises do not belong in anuses. Period. How can you stand the smell?
Sorry. I don't want a "normal" marriage like you straight people have. I want a meaningful, loving, committed one like the one I have with my husband of nearly 20 years. With your 50+% divorce rate, I don't want one of your type of "marriages".
Yea let's spend our money to promote HATE as much as we can. Let's keep eveyone upset at everyone else so we don't see the real criminals wasting our money and resources on their pleasures and wants. I am not gay and I don't believe in the invisible man. I don't want any tax money spent on either. If you want to be gay or pray then that is your business. I am more offended by ther fairy tales than the sexual activities of someone. If we survive all this oligarchy and not destroy ourselves our offspring will wonder what the hell was wrong with us.
It's nice to know that you are the great arbiter of what is and is not hate, because clearly, not liking gays is hate, but ridiculing someone's belief system is not. Others beliefs offend you, but you decide that people aren't allowed to be offended by gays.
@Real4WheelDrv That's such a good point that I will expound that. I know you're religious. I don't dislike you but I strongly dislike religion. That's a belief of mine. If you can get past that then great, if not then we disagree to the point of not interacting. I also don't like effeminate men or masculine women. Straight or gay. That leaves out most gay men and a number of Lesbians. So be it. Their lives are not hurt by my not liking them. My life is not hurt by them not liking me. I don't care if Chaz Bono had a sex change. Chaz Bono is an obese pig who has never done a damn thing other than be a famous sex change daughter of a famous singer. His life and my life are not affected by my view of him. I'm disgusted by his weight more than I am his gender change. That's life in a free society.
@jessejaymes Well technically I'm on the fence religion wise, I just defend it strongly because I've had a really hard life, and religion is a part of certain family members lives and friends lives. I figure if they need to believe that their suffering will be rewarded or get better after death, or that their hard times are the result of some grand plan for them, then I have no right to take it from them. For every person who uses religion for power, there's many more who need it for a sense of hope.
Three million to a congress person is the same as pennies in a small bank to you and I. Chump change. Never mind that any of us could live quite nicely just on the interest from 3 million. These people really do think they are American royalty.
Yeppers. "Boehner Spent $3 Million in Taxpayer Money Opposing Gay Marriage" Unneeded and unnecessary spending should be billed back to that politician and garnished from any wages and tax refunds until repaid in full. See, I wouldn't survive my first 60 days as POTUS......(unless I stayed in the White house basement). <but, it would be a glorious death>
The three million dollars is a relatively trivial amount in this game. The problem is that Boehner and co. have no intention of honoring either the court or it's rulings. Despite all the talk about small government and personal liberty, despite the stagnant economy and this opportunity to prove their fitness for leadership by example..they choose to do nothing constructive for the nation's recovery.
Though it is a small amount compared to the billions and trillions....a silly $1 a day spent by you over a working lifetime is over $18,000. Or, better yet, if every Congress/Senator spent 3 million a month in excess = $15.4 Billion..... a month.
@stepped_in_it You ain't wrong cousin, we're thrifty around here from a habit born of necessity. I was speaking to a dearth of leadership in general and specifically in the once "conservative" GOP. The Congress should be busy with the economy and leave the social issues of private citizens to the courts.
Since there is no safari for the Obamas this trip you must be referring to this: "Former presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush also made trips to multiple African nations involving similarly laborious preparations. Bush went in 2003 and 2008, bringing his wife on both occasions. Bush's two daughters went along on the first trip, which included a safari at a game preserve on the Botswana-South Africa border." http://goo.gl/PRMfW
Both the house and senate would have to pass the amendment and then the voters would have to decide in an election by voting for or against the amendment. That's the way to go with it. I don't know if the electors would approve this measure if it were on the ballot. It is a great way to put this to rest and take it out of the hands of the court, placing it on the citizens of the United States.
Isn't it awful Today the news said that in LA County ALONE the tax slaves are being to fund over 18,000.000 on new programs to indocrinate non english speaking school kids to tell their parents about ObamaCare. Boehners 3,000,000 wouldn't even pay for Mrs obama and her friends Lobster addiction. But, it is funny for Politix to tag the $3 million as a BIG deal.
WTF... This is insane. We are under the thumbs of a completely corrupt and morally bankrupt legal industry. Our borders have been over run by illegal aliens. Pop-culture depicts good guys as bad and bad guys as good in every media outlet. Billions of tax dollars, extorted by professional politicians, are wasted on social engineering projects every day. Our right to defend our selves is under attack. And this is what we bitch about. What a damn shame.
