May 17 JohnnyDee v Yes, they should. If the average joe has to submit to drug testing to WORK for money, welfare recipients should have to submit to drug testing to NOT WORK while having the WORKING mans money handed to him for free! Post
May 14 JTHEM v Yes, they should. Generally I agree but there are other issues. So what drugs are we testing them for and why are we? Street drugs, Oxycontin, Pot, what? What else is attached to the testing? Loss of food benefits, kids, housing? Post
May 14 cowboy67 v Yes, they should. Yes, welfare is for people who need help getting back on their feet. It is not meant to be a lifetime of taking from the hard working taxpayer. If they are wasting my money on drugs, they don't need my money. To those of you who cry what about the children, it's not their fault that their parents are on drugs....The state needs to take these children and either give them to family members or foster homes. A child raised in a drug infested home is NOT healthy! It just leads to the kids having more of a chance in following in their parents footsteps. Post
May 10 whatheheck v Yes, they should. If you have to be drug tested to hold a job, you sure as hell should have to to get welfare from my tax dollars. Post
May 9 DreamStat1c v No, they shouldn't. No, drug testing them would cost use more money in lab fees and testing kits than it would save, and if they want to test for drugs test everyone receiving money or aid from the government, including politicians. Post
May 7 PaulUK2901 v No, they shouldn't. How do 75% of these voters want people who use drugs to stay alive? If you fail a drug test, you don't get money for food? That's really going to work well. r10 replies Post

May 14 cowboy67 So you are saying just keep feeding the problem? LOL. Nice, Just roll over and let the problem keep going and going and going! Post @cowboy67
May 15 PaulUK2901 @cowboy67 - I just don't live in never-never land! Imagining that just stopping thousands of people's money, and telling them to go starve will improve things, is typical T-Party moonshine. What are these people going to do to survive? Anything, they have to. Post @PaulUK2901
May 15 cowboy67 @PaulUK2901 ...And just turning a blind eye to the situation is typical liberal koolaide! These people already do what they have to do to get their next fix. Being on welfare doesn't pay for the drugs! Yes Pauluk, You DO live in never-never land! Post @cowboy67
May 15 PaulUK2901 @cowboy67 I'm not turning a blind eye, just being realistic. That's why the Republics don't win Presidential elections at the moment. They're not dealing with reality. Post @PaulUK2901
May 7 Ashley_Steele v Yes, they should. Yes they should⦠if your a junkie in welfare the rest of America don't need to be paying for your bad habit⦠if you're responsible and on welfare, then I don't blame you but we need to crack down on people who are just taking handouts and blowing our money Post
May 4 ZombieMedic v Yes, they should. Shouldn't have welfare to begin with. There are charities if people are that hard up. We don't need government robbing the poor to give to other lazier poor people. B1 e1 endorsed Post

Dec '12 kawalski v Yes, they should. If you can come up with the money for illegal drugs then you can come up with money for food.. Americans will be much more comfortable with their tax's being used for welfare programs if they know that their money is not buying drugs for addicts. Finding a way to include alcohol should be included. Welfare is supposed to help people get on their feet, not become more needy. Post
u Dec '12 RealHonesTruth v No, they shouldn't. Gov. Rick Snot in Florida has proven that drug tests only wastes more money. They started doing drug tests to qualify people for Food Stamps and 98% passed the drug test. Over the course of a year, the state spent over a million dollars on the tests and held back on less than ten thousand dollars that would have been given. So in the end, when you do a cost analysis, the state lost over a million dollars. Post
Apr '12 RockmartDad36 v Yes, they should. I have to be drug tested to get a job and make a paycheck and be taxed on that check. Then you should be drug tested in order to receive my tax money for your benifits. B7 r2 replies e94 endorsed Post
Apr '12 MelissaBoteach K Director of Half in Ten at Center for American Progress v No, they shouldn't. Drug-testing welfare recipients is a solution in search of a problem. People on assistance have not tested positive for drug use at a higher rate than the average population, and welfare is already subjected to federal and state audits. Numerous studies show that it costs taxpayers huge sums of money to catch even one abuser. Such proposals imply that falling on hard times makes you more likely to abuse drugs, an unfounded claim. Unfortunately, the line between the poor and middle-class is not as impenetrable as some might think. Rather than spending taxpayer dollars on drug-testing struggling families, policymakers should concentrate on putting Americans back to work. B1 r6 replies e34 endorsed Post
u Apr '12 riverboatwife v Yes, they should. As a former welfare recipient and an ex-drug addict, I must vote yes. In Arkansas, we have an awesome welfare system. A 24 month LIFETIME limit, recipients must work or go to school/training,etc. In spite of the top notch program, my life never truly changed until my kids got taken away and I was forced to sober up or lose them forever. In Arkansas, just having children in your home or presence is an assumed consent to a drug test and a FAIL or DENY is grounds to have them taken and/or be prosecuted. Even that is not enough for many people. I credit God and recovery programs like AA & Celebrate Recovery for my sobriety. Addiction is one of the single most important iss... B4 e17 endorsed Post
Apr '12 GlenWhitman K Professor of Economics, California State University, Nort... v No, they shouldn't. No. Although it may seem reasonable to require welfare recipients to meet certain conditions, being âdrug-freeâ is not one of those conditions. On the contrary, such a condition would simply add fuel to a drug war that is already destructive of our lives and civil liberties. Looking for a better way to reduce the welfare rolls? Try releasing the hundreds of thousands of drug offenders caught in the most expensive welfare system of all: prison. B2 r2 replies e5 endorsed Post
u May '12 liam v Yes, they should. I had to take a drug test for my job, and I can be randomly selected at any time for one. If you want to clean up the welfare system, then start by getting the drug abusers off it! e6 endorsed Post

May '12 Truthinesss v Yes, they should. The way I see it is this. I have no problem helping people out that need it. But, the money you receive should be, and actually may be going to help the family in question. But if you are doing some sort of drugs instead of using other peoples money to survive, then I don't think you should get to receive it. And I have no problem with drugs, if people want to use, more power to ya. But, when its on my dime, you damn well better not. That money is there for HELP, and whether or not you can afford it outside of welfare, you should take that extra money and use it for what your getting on welfare. Unfortunately, people don't take what they "need", they take all they can... B1 e2 endorsed Post

No wonder our country is screwed up.... B3 Post @Skyclmbr
