Geraldo Rivera told Fox & Friends that the news that dozens of CIA agents were in Benghazi during the attack is "not as extraordinary as perhaps being made out."
Geraldo said he personally was not surprised at the CIA news because he'd suspected months ago that the US government was covering up a CIA gun-running operation to transfer weapons to the Syrian rebels via Libya.
"It's like a Middle Eastern Fast and Furious," host Steve Doocy said.
Geraldo is not the only political insider to speculate that the CIA is covering up a gun-running operation in Benghazi. CNN reported that "speculation on Capitol Hill has included the possibility the US agencies operating in Benghazi were secretly helping to move surface-to-air missiles out of Libya, through Turkey, and into the hands of Syrian rebels."
Of course, that speculation is by no means confirmed fact. However as early as October 2012, a Fox source claimed that Ambassador Stevens himself was in Benghazi to facilitate a weapons transfer to Syria.
A different theory reported by the National Review has it that the CIA, along with Ambassador Stevens, were in Benghazi to recover Stinger Missiles that the US had supplied to Libyan insurgents, who later turned out to be Al Qaeda.
