The only criteria for impeaching a president, per the US constitution, are "treason, bribery, and other high crimes and misdemeanors." Coburn cited Obama's "lawlessness" as a reason to impeach, but he also cited "incompetence," suggesting that Obama's degree of incompetency might rise "to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors."
Coburn's words are surprising because he's not a conservative firebrand like Ted Cruz. He's one of the senators who oppose shutting down government to defund Obamacare, pointing out that it's not going to work and is instead a way for the GOP to lose the House.
Lacking votes you may be right. lacking crimes not so. Congress decides the definition of what high crimes and misdemeanors are. It could be easily argued for instance that Obamas mlitary actions order in Libya violated the war powers act ( as did Clinton in Kosovo actually ). thats just one example. But all that aside I think efforts would be better spent elsewhere. going through an impeachment would just impede trying to get positive things done. Obama has really sucked as a president but just going to have to work on tthis through the rest of his term.
Is it a crime to push the IRS to go after conservative groups so they get no political action money thereby reducing campaign money for opposing parties? The media & Democrats have done all in their power to drop this scandal & I have not heard of one person losing their job because of it. The only reason their is no proof for all Obama's scandals, Fast & furious, Benhgazi, IRS, etc. is because the scandals are all dropped because the vast majority of main stream media has become Democrat supporters.
@sociald The Libya thing was quite legal under the War Powers Resolution of 1973 that allows the President to use military force provided Congress is duly notified within 48 hours and, if no further authorization is provided by Congress, the use of that force ends in 60 days.( http://goo.gl/q0n8H )
That might explain why the enthusiastic Obama critics in Congress have never taken up that Presidential action as a cause celebre.
@commonsense51 "Is it a crime to push the IRS to go after conservative groups so they get no political action money thereby reducing campaign money for opposing parties?"
Any group can raise money and donate to campaigns without IRS approval, it's that 1st amendment thing. IRS approval is required if that group wants to influence elections without the onerous burden of paying taxes like the rest of us. And no conservative groups were "targeted" - the IRS was applying the same criteria to progressive groups as well, of which at least 3 were denied tax-exempt status. Finally, the Bush-appointed head of the IRS at the time this was going on did lose his job over it.
If you're going to list "crimes" of the current administration, it's a good rule of thumb to avoid Darrel Issa's "scandals" like the plague.
@Starsplash The election was rigged. The establishment rigged the GOP primary against Paul (tons of proof on that), the media was ran against Paul, plus Soros (Obama's biggest backer) had bought a large share of that Spanish vote counting company that counted the votes for 26 states, all overseas votes, and all military personnel votes. The "Establishment" wanted Obama to win. The next one to win in 2016 election will be the one to be at the 2015 Bilderberg meeting.... Mark my words!!!
This guy is nothing more than a right-wing hackjob who is also part of the conspiracy-driven, Glenn Beck/Donald Trump birthers movement.
They can't beat him in the intellectual department to win an election so they have to resort to trying to diminish his accomplishments and destroy him with phony scandals and make-believe stories and false accusations.
But nothing ever works. That is why Republicans and Conservatives are so frustrated which drives them up the wall only to land back into the same crazy bin that they keep trying to escape from.
"is an example of what happens when you vote (R)." >>>Now, PN, with some bad examples of (D) politicians out there also, ya might want to say "is an example of what happens when you vote" incumbent instead.
@Neo_NtheMatrix Hi Neo - I probably should have asked first but you are not by chance a personal friend of Obama's are you? I made the assumption that you were not but you know what happens when you assume.
He's a liar a crook and he left4 Americans to die and told them to stand down, or let Hillary. He's ultimately responsible. He went to Vegas instead. He and his homey Eric Holder are together threw two worst people in Washington.
Which US Presidents have been impeached? "Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. Since some people think" impeached" means canned, sacked, fired, given the boot...don't let the door hit ya in the rumpus! I will just clarify here that the act of impeaching is strictly a House of Representatives gig. It is the House putting the person on trial for possible sacking. The trial is then held by the Senate. Note that it isn't strictly Presidents that get impeached, and that no president has yet been found guilty by the senate during an impeachment trial and/or subsequently been sacked." HMMM......224 years of presidential terms and only 2 have been impeached and ZERO have been found guilty. The track record for both impeachment AND guilty is not good. As long as the senate is democrat controlled AND Obama doesn't get caught with a smoking gun in his hand, republicans are wasting BOTH time and money. The mid term elections might change all that, but, not as long as the 'pubs keep acting like minuscule brained dinosaurs.......
@Cal Obama ordered the drone strike against an American Citizen, whom HE determined to be a "terrorist". That strike, which took place in Yemen (not a war zone) also killed 3 other Americans one of which was a 16 year old boy. American citizens have the right to the due process of law and are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, in which the accused has the right to face his/her accuser, has a right to trial by a jury of his/her peers and has the right of counsel. These persons were denied those rights, so Obama's actions can hardly be said to be legal. The President does not have the power to condemn US citizens to death. His actions in this case is murder.
@Gatnos Get your facts straight, Gatnos. Yemen is in fact a war zone, there were not 3 other Americans killed in the strike, and Awlaki was an openly declared member of Al-Qaeda and in fact a REGIONAL COMMANDER of Al-Qaeda in Yemen.
Republicans saying Obama is perilously close to impeachment is like furries saying our species is almost ready to evolve cat eyes and retractable claws. Definitely more wishful thinking than a sound prediction.
@Neo_NtheMatrix I hear Mr. Obama has god-like control of the weather and time travel, had acquired telekinetic powers and uses them to make your tea pot boil over and his last speech was secretly about why he hates you, personally. Therefore I give Mr. Obama some points for sheer amusement value.
war power act ,fourth amendment NSA wire taps, and one of my favorite drone strike on a American citizen he had a right to die properly and should have got due process. Two of them Bush did and all three Obama did I can name more but I have to go work to help pay for my fair share of the debt.@Phreakwars
@Phreakwars OK that does not sound childish. So bacically judging from your comment Bush because he is a republican is wrong but you condone Obama when he has done same he is right because he is a demo crate! You are what is wrong with democracy and why it will fail!
he is an incapable academic bully who has no leadership ability and has split this country worse than any elected person in years, even Clinton kept the nation closer than this guy. but impeachment, I doubt congress could agree on how to do it.
Democrats, do you remember your outrage that Bush was not impeached for supposed deliberate lies of weapons of mass destruction? There was absolutely no proof of his knowledge of whether there were weapons or not. You wondered how anyone could still support Bush?
Now look within yourselves and listen to the crap coming from your lips when you support this total failure of a president Obama. Ask yourself the same questions you asked the GOP about Bush. There was never a shed of proof that Bush knowingly lied about weapons of mass destructions but there is plenty of proof Obama was up to his ears in all these scandals. He gets away with everything because the main stream media WILL NOT go after him. It is sickening!
Bush's lies about weapons of mass destruction (and yes there is proof he was lying) were not actually a crime. There's no law against lying to the American people, after all. What was a crime was the torture program he implemented. And the warrantless wiretap program. The latter should have been enough for him to be impeached. The former should have been enough for him to be imprisoned, if not executed as a war criminal.
@Cal Wow, every war we have gotten into could be argued as being wrong or right & there has been torture since time began. That is why we got Bin Laden.... the information attained was from water boarding before Obama was ever elected. Maybe in your happy little world, saving many innocent lives from information gather from murderers, with waterboarding, which kills no one, is not worth it. How about if it saved your family's lives. These murderer's deserve the death penalty & water boarding is nothing to what they deserved. Obama actually supports the killing of a baby born alive from a botched late term abortion & people like you have the nerve to talk of humanity? GET REAL! Look at the Democrat party if you want to talk about inhumanity against human beings. George Bush banned Partial birth Abortions & with that one act did more for humanity than any Democrat ever thought of. The Democrats refused to ban partial birth abortions even after the GOP had a life of mother exception. HYPOCRITES!
@commonsense51 Information from waterboarding did not have any connection to finding Bin Laden. hat's simply a false narrative that torture advocates have been spreading. And no, it would not be "worth it" to torture under ANY circumstance. All those involved in the waterboarding, up to and including Bush, should be put on trial as war criminals and face the death penalty for their crimes.
And no Obama does not support killing a baby "born alive" from a botched abortion. That's another loony lie that Republicans made up.
@Cal It is you who believe's the loony lies from the left. There is not an abortion Obama was ever against. Did you watch the movie on getting Bin Laden? I guess even Liberal Hollywood lied about information from water boarding leading to Bin Laden's hideaway? You are the perfect Liberal. Deny, lie, & demonize your opponent.
