A North Carolina mom recently discovered to her dismay - and outrage - that her mentally and physically disabled son was being stored, as it were, in a cardboard box in his middle school classroom.
David Edwards at
Raw Story tells of distraught Caldwell County mother Joy Amatuccio, who
told her local news outlet that she was "absolutely mortified" to learn of what was going on at Hudson Middle School. Her son, Jacob, was apparently being placed in a cardboard box as a form of punishment for his frequent outbursts, a side-effect of a brain injury he suffered as a toddler.
"I was absolutely mortified," said Amatuccio. "That's his dignity. These are all his peers. People can walk by and see, there's a child in the box."
An investigation is now underway at the school, and the teacher in question has been placed on administrative leave, with pay, pending an outcome.
