Rep. Steve Stockman, who calls himself "the most conservative Congressman in Texas," has come under fire for plans to hold a Bushmaster AR-15 giveaway on July 4.
"Want to win a FREE AR-15?" Stockman asks on his 2014 campaign web site. "I'm giving away a Bushmaster AR-15! Grab this gun before Obama does!"
The contest's web page features a video of Stockman's interns firing the weapon with the caption: "Win the gun Obama wants to ban." The winner will be chosen randomly on July 4 and be subject to a background check, the web site points out.
"Firearms prize must be claimed through a licensed firearms dealer in accordance with federal, state and local law," the web site says. "Firearms prize winners must meet all legal requirements and will be subject to a dealer's background check."
Stockman has been slammed on Twitter for offering the same weapon used in the December Newtown elementary school massacre.

Stockman seems to enjoy provoking liberal outrage and the attention it brings. In April, he made headlines for selling bumper stickers that say: "If babies had guns they wouldn't be aborted." He sells the bumper stickers he says "liberals hate" for $10 campaign contributions.
