When Affirmative Action was first adopted, it was to be AN EMPLOYER MAKING A CONSCIOUS EFFORT TO CORRECT THE PAST EFFECTS OF DISCRIMINATION/ SEGREGATION, RESULTING IN UNDER-REPRESENTATION, THROUGH MAKING A BONA FIDE DOCUMENTED EFFORT TO HIRE QUALIFIED MINORITIES FOR A POSITION. This included the use of recruitment agencies, ads in newspapers stating that the "__________is an Equal Opportunity Employer", and national searches depending of course on the IMPORTANCE of the position-you can't expect someone to conduct a national search for a fry-cook at a ... o May 2 TheHandsomeOne v No, I don't As long as Native Americans are only given HALF the POINTS of black people, and the federal government continues to refuse to accept DNA proof of lineage for any native American, it's flawed from it's very foundational cornerstone. NOTHING about what happened to blacks remotely compares to what happened to Natives (think holocaust) or really even Irish and Chinese immigrants after Lincoln's slavery amendments. Post

Jun '12 Bobolinsky v No, I don't Affirmative action is a child of Critical Race Theory. Critical Race Theory belongs on the trash heap of history. . Affirmative Action uses the force of law to compel people to treat people differently based on skin color. If that ain't racism, I don't know what is. B6 r6 replies e18 endorsed Post
Jun '12 Goebel v Yes, I do Yes. In the US, as well as the west in general, certain groups have been privileged at the expense of other groups. Blacks suffer and are pushed down in order to prop up whites. Women pushed down to benefit men. The remnants of such discrimination, and often times the discrimination itself, is still evident today. The average white family's net worth is more than three times the average net worth of a black family (If you'd like more statistics, to challenge my statistics, or place some of your own, please leave a comment). Given this, we should do what we can to further the goal of equal treatment across all races, genders, sexual orientations, and so on. B2 r35 replies e18 endorsed Post

Jun '12 Bobolinsky Ohhhh... I get it now. Let me see if I got this right. . You say that the brave, non-racist boy in your analogy is performing "affirmative action". . Therefore "affirmative action" is good. . Government requiring hiring and admissions quotas is "affirmative action". . Therefore government requiring hiring and admissions quotas is good. . Is that your argument? . You are playing semantical games and engaging in logical fallacies. . In the context of this poll question and the debate about "affirmative action", the only places your analogy counts as "affirmative action" is in your precious sociology classrooms. . The rest of us are talking about governmen... B3 Post @Bobolinsky
