Rep. Ron Paul's libertarian brand of Republicanism is making some party regulars nervous, Huffington Post reports. Ahead of the party convention in Tampa next week, a member of the committee setting rules tried to make it more difficult for Paul's name to be offered as president or vice president.

The change would have raised the number of states a candidate needs to nominate the Texan from the floor from five to 10. Paul supporters have captured a large number of delegate seats - in a few cases the majority - in at least seven states: Maine, Iowa, Minnesota, Nevada, Louisiana, Massachusetts, and Oregon.

    No why stop the fun? Ron and Mitt are like oil and water. Let's mix'em up and see what happens. Will not make that Republican engine run very well though. Divide and conquer, devoid and conquer!

    Any objective review of the past four years would clearly show that it is the Obama Administration and congressional Democrats who have consistently sought to pit one demographic group against another. It would be hard for Republicans to do the same since they insist on stubbornly viewing people as individuals rather than reliable lemmings whose behavior is based on a tribal loyalty to the group. "Divide and conquer", indeed.

    Heck no the rules should not be changed. Ron Paul is the only Politician in Washington who tells the truth and who has not be bought off by the big banks. His voice need to be heard, because his ideas are the only ones that addresses the issues.

    Absolutely NOT. Ron Paul was maybe the second best Republican in the running. Second to Jon Huntsman. I'd love to see the GOP convention do some real bickering, real debating. It's a waste of time if they all just line up to kiss Romney's ring.

    I completely disagree with the fact that you think Jon Huntsman is a better candidate. There is no "was". Ron Paul is STILL a candidate.

    No, of course not. Paul's delegates have every right to place his name in nomination. In fact, if the GOP and the Romney campaign have any brains, they would understand that the best way to unify the party behind Romney is to let the Ron Paul people have their moment - preferably befor the prime time TV coverage begins.

    Actually, some differences of opinion and the resolution of those differences would be a refreshing display of our republic at work. I understand that the campaign heads are probably telling their candidate to vear to the center at this point, but I think a little scrumming between Romney and Ron Paul on prime time TV might actually get a few people to watch. The old crusties in the GOP need to retire. Of course Ron Paul's delegates should be seated. As a sign of good will, they should be seated up front at that.

    @DerivePI - Well, one thing that would help get us there would be if the civic education of our youth were improved. There has been such a blindered focus on math and science education in our schools that civics has been completely forgotten.

    Thats why he is being ignored.

    Seems to me your vote only counts in the Republican party if you vote for the establishments candidate of choice. Ron Paul won his delegates to the convention by the vote of the people and they should be allowed to cast them. If you feel like your tread upon by all means jump ship and come on over to the libertarian party well welcome you with open arms. If you believe in maximum freedom and minimum government you'll fit right in.

    I believe in maximum freedom and minimum government. Ron Paul has reason to be proud of his influence on the republican party this year. Audit the Fed is supposedly going to be on the platform and now there is talk about a return to the gold standard.

    All I'm asking is that you consider at least to yourself the possibility that voting for Romney/Ryan has a real shot at achieving some of the things that libertarians want the most. The Tea Party has a SERIOUS libertarian streak and the Tea Party is why Paul Ryan is on the ticket, why Audit the Fed is on the platform and why they are now talking about returning to the gold standard. Without the Tea Party, Ron Paul would still be a voice in the wilderness and his son would still be an eye doctor.

    @Bobolinsky I respect you Bobo, very much so. But, don't ask people to consider changing their vote to go for the lesser of two evils (personally I think they are both just as bad. Romney anti-big Government? Not likely. He's another Dubyah waiting to happen with better speaking ability). Unless we do something now, the status quo will remain just that.
    Personally I'd rather have Dr. Paul on his own ticket and not the GOP. I think two parties stifles how Americans think, and is more divisive than anyone will admit or talk about.

    @Fishbone345-- I'm not asking him to vote for the lesser of two evils. I'm asking him to give the Tea Party a chance at continuing what thy have been able to accomplish within the republican party.

    Not Romney.

    Romney is the only candidate that has a shot of winning that will actually listen to the small government base. Obama is hostile to small government.

    It's a choice between Obama and full speed ahead socialism or at the very least. A screeching halt.

    Lastly, Gary Johnson will not win. Not this year. It's too late. Wanna throw your vote away on him? Fine. I won;t stop you. But don;t tell me that a there's no difference between the two.

    @Bobolinsky Dr. Paul hasn't given up yet. If he's not on my ballot, I'll write him in, as will a lot of us I'd imagine.
    My vote is thrown away anyways, I live in a Red State and I don't like Mitt and I won't vote for him. And a lot of the reason I don't like him, comes from the state I live in.

    Yes it seems they have decided to give him a voice in there show. They figured it be less disruptive and are hoping it'll keep others from crossing on over.

    There used to be an organization for people who believed in a truly limited government — limited taxes, limited spending, limited interference in individual lives. That organization was known as the Republican Party. When his fellow candidates denounced big government, Paul was there to remind them that President Bush and the G.O.P. Congress had shattered spending records and exploded the deficit. When they hailed freedom, Paul asked why they all supported the Patriot Act and other expansions of executive power. And when they called themselves conservatives, Paul asked what was so conservative about sending thousands of young Americans to try to transform the Middle East.

    I remember during the 2000 election when Bush argued against "nation building". When elected, he even instituted a "fine" on the DOD that paid deployed service members an extra $100 per day if they were deployed more than a year (they were called OPTEMPO days. My LES still counts two of them I earned in 2001. That has since been rescinded).
    My how the Republicans have changed since 9/11. Bush probably wouldn't even get the nomination on that platform now.

    Well well! Looks like the scoundrells are coming out of the woodwork trying to stop the GOOD GUYS from even speaking! If the 'clique' starts a bunch of crap like this, they deserve to be defeated!!!!!! I WILL vote for Ron Paul by write in no matter what or who is nominated. If all the GOD fearing people would stand up and vote their minda and hearts and not "PARTY VOTE" maybe just maybe someone woudl get elected that would try to do somethign to correct the mess that the 'parties' have cause for many years. I'm registered Democrat Because I HAD TO REGISTER SOMEWHERE TO VOTE but I vote for the person, not the party. I'm voting RON PAUL...

    I am voting Ron Paul as well, no matter what! I do not believe anyone else is cut out for the presidency. There is no one who will be able to get the job done as Ron Paul will be able to. His record of action is proof enough at how well he will/could lead us.

    I'm gathering that some of the Republican Establishment aren't understanding what has happened to their party over the last 3 1/2 years. The Tea Party and Ron Paul libertarians who haven't abandoned the republicans yet are paying attention to when the party pulls these types of shenanigans on the grassroots.

    @bobolinsky They better start paying attention to whats going on. And the Democrats should take notice as well. In the not to distant future there's going to be a mass exodus from both party's if they keep up this political shell game they been playing. You can only kick a dog so many times till it turns on you. And the hair is raised on the back of my neck and I'm sure I'm not by myself. I can tell by reading your past comments your as sick of this crap as I am. I understand exactly what you've be saying and I have much respect for your reasoning.@blacksheep I'm sure if it were not for Dr. Paul's stance on some personnel liberty issue's you wouldn't be relegating him to the concession stand. Just because the man has the back bone to stands up and tell the truth doesn't make him an idiot or nut case. When people are confronted with the truth and have noway of defending there reasoning the name calling begins.

    @truthsayer ok I should not have callef the good Dr. an idiot.Obviously he is intelligent,he is a medical doctor.What I should have said was that his level of political awareness is such that makes him much more likely to be successful handing children a lolipop after in some pediatric setting.Perhaps he could share UFO stories with them.

    @truthsayer- I agree with you that there could be a mass exodus from the republican party if Romney wins and the republicans cave on economic issues. What I'm saying is that I believe that this ticket(Paul Ryan) and this crop of Tea Party Freshmen and soon to be Sophomores will actually stay focused on economic issues. I'm not saying it won't be a fight against entrenched Establishment Republicans but it's one we have a chance of winning. I like Gary Johnson but there just isn't a chance this year. One of two people is going to win that election on Nov 6th.
