I wish Ron Paul supported the military. I think with the exception of that he would have made a great president. Certainly he would have shrank government to the size it should be and he would have honored the Constitution, something this current administration simply doesn't do. So much wasted potential. His campaign for president never got any traction simply because he wanted to surrender all wars to our enemies.

I still dream of what $1T in spending cuts in the first year of office would look like. I also believe he really would have eliminated the federal debt by the time his term ended. Hopefully there will be a politician just like him that comes along with the goal of having a strong military, but small limited government. We certainly could use that today.

    In 2008 I would have voted for him, possibly in 2012 as well. But if you take out his support for the founding principles regarding war and military spending you take away a big part of the reason I would support such a candidate. Thus far I am not impressed by his son...

    When right wingers say they want "small government", what they really mean is they don't want government to help people. They are all about big government when it comes to policing the world, locking up people for smoking pot, telling people who they can have sex with and telling women they can't abort.

    It would look a lot like a depression, to have that much spending yanked out of the economy.

    It's counterproductive, to understate the case by several orders of magnitude, to take a hammer to an economy the size of ours. It would put us in a depression, and it would not do anything for the deficit, much less the debt.

    That's according to Milton Friedman, the Republicans economic guru.

    Government shouldn't be in the business of picking winners and losers. Everyone in this country has the same opportunities for success. Some utilize their opportunities more than others, and thus reap the success of their fruits and labor. Others do not make use of the opportunities they have and expect government to make up for that. I am adamantly against that.

    Government should enforce the rule of law. It is the purpose of government. So yes, I do believe we should be the enforcers of law and order. Marijuana is illegal, I don't care who has sex with who as long the sex is between two competent consenting adults, and I don't care "per se" if woman aborts, however the rights of the baby should be considered too. We have a mandate to protect life and a baby is a life.

    Paul supports defense of this country, and the troops, not the useless spending and oversized mass our military has become. There's a reason he got so much support from vets, and it's not because he didn't support them. His point is that putting our military in harm's way as often as we do makes us many enemies, and it's an unnecessary expense. We didn't need to go in to the extent we did in Afghanistan, and not at all in Iraq. These two occupations have served as a recruitment seminar for all that hate or envy the US. I agree with him that we protect ourselves within our borders, but leave the rest of the world to themselves. If threats are real, stomp them out, and if not leave them alone.

    @Neo_NtheMatrix But everybody doesn't have the same opportunities for success. People born into really rich families have opportunities people born into poor families don't. I'm an unattractive short woman, I don't have the opportunity to be a runway model, a centerfold, or an NBA center. Right wingers like to live in a fantasy world, I think that's one reason so many of them are fundamentalist Christians. You are OK with marijuana being illegal. Does the sex have to be between only two adults?

    @Hireman we were attacked on 9/11 because of our military actions in the Middle East. I'm in favor of bringing all of our Military home, and using them to defend the US. Only.

    Are you serious? No other candidate supported the military more! In fact no other candidate received more donations from the military! You are grossly misinformed.
