@WMCOL No, they didn't. Many states have had laws on the books since the 1930's curtailing the right to carry. New York's Sullivan Act goes back to 1911. By and large, anti-carry laws were enacted in the Southern states, after the Civil war as a way to keep freed slaves from defending themselves.

Essentially, gun control is just another form or racism. Although, in modern times, it's more like classism. i.e., "I'm rich, I can afford professional bodyguard. You're poor, you can't."

    @alowe56
Southern states always had open carry, but for whites only, like so much else of the South was whites only. Open Carry was the standard from founding. Didn't mean to blame Reagan for states like New York that made laws against open carry before Ronald Reagan, when his anti-open carry movement began in the eighties and spread across nation from there.

The damage Ronald Reagan did to gun rights is the point.

@WMCOL Really? Funny I never heard about it. I know that open carry was legal in Indiana WITH a permit long before Reagan was in office, and he never had an impact on that. Open carry in Michigan has been legal for a very long time. That's not changed much, except it's more accepted now than it has been. California didn't restrict Open carry until the Black Panthers demonstrated by carrying rifles. That was about 1967. Of course, now Gov. Brown has banned open carry within the last couple of years there.

Just what states did ban open carry at Reagan's suggestion? I wasn't aware of any anti-open carry movment on his part in the 1980's.

Will she return the campaign contributions that she's gotten from groups who want to ban guns entirely? Will she repudiate her previous votes and comments that adversely reflected on gun owners? If not, she IS an opportunist.

    !
Why? Because you say so? The only other gun legislation I read on her was her attempts to make ID be required when selling firearms at gun shows. How is that opportunistic? You can support both you know. Stricter laws on buying and selling with better records to make sure it's people who are legally able to purchase the guns are teh ones buying them while supporting those same people's right to carry with a permit. They're not mutually exclusive.

Nope - I'm against her on this issue but still a big supporter.

And while you are making allegations please provide any evidence of votes she has cast that adversely reflected on gun owners. If you can't then just admit that you were lying.

@TRex84 Open carry is, by definition, WITHOUT a permit, in most states. The ID law she supports is a effectively a ban on sales by individuals. Selling a gun to a neighbor, giving one to a relative, or even loaning one to some to go hunting with you would involve a trip to a gun store, paying for a back ground check, waiting, and if the check fails for any reason, not getting your gun back. Ever. A very large percentage of instant checks result in a denial for 'technical' reasons, which include mistakes made by the checkers entering the data incorrectly, the computers being shut off, a multitude of things which are errors. If you ran a business, would you be in favor of a law that forced you to perform a law enforcement function for the state and federal government without compensation, and which forced you to store valuable property not yours when those checks had errors?

The problem is that Wendy has already gotten caught in lies, so how can I believe her. Sure, I love open carry, however she reminds me of Obama, and that I can't allow.

I do not believe this woman and i do not trust her in the first place. If we loose Texas to the leftist this country will finally have received its Coup De Grace. Fight against it texas, fight against those who want to turn this country into a defunct socialistic mecca.

I wouldn't trust a democrat on gun rights or most constitutional rights. Either way, open carry is not for me. I wouldn't want an assailant knowing I'm armed. They can plan for that. I would rather remain concealed and leave it as an unknown variable.

Open carry harms no one and is only an issue with limp wristed left wing morons. I'd have to check, obviously, but I could have sworn open carry in Texas was already legal without any permit.

Only the open carry of long guns is legal, unless you "alarm" some pansy leftist and you get arrested for disorderly conduct.

Open carry in Texas is restricted to long guns only since the 1880s. What Davis actually said was that she supported open carry on private property, which is legal in any state obviously. She is just pandering to the low info voters and lying like a typical politician. She is a gold digging snake.

It is alleged that Wendy Davis is also in favor of stabbing your husband in the back (figuratively) as soon as he pays off your debt. This should eliminate her from the ballot of all males and independent women (who don't need a man to handle their business).

Gabrielle Giffords was pro guns and a Democrat and they voted for her. Is this Wendy Davis's attempt to save her campaign after taking that ding from shown to be a liar?

I think she ought to just own it and admit she'll support any position that polls well that month. What's wrong with that, anyway? It beats lying about flip-flopping.

Seems that concealed carry is preferable. In some states it is legal to open-carry, but you need a special license and training for concealed carry. It is quite the patchwork. A political move? Probably. The warning shot was from the Texas State Rifle Association spokeswoman: "Wendy Davis has a very bad record as far as gun owners go," Tripp said. Seems she can woo both sides at once. Makes her a politician.

She is just "pulling an Obama" and lying on this, because her campaign is going down in flames here. Just like Obama claimed to be for the 2nd Amendment and people's freedoms, then as soon as he is re-elected, boom, off comes the mask and he says he wants to confiscate all pistols and rifles and is in bed with Bloomberg spending millions to try to do it.

Wendy "gold digger" Davis is just trying to convince low-information voters that she is mainstream Texas also, but people here know her for what she is, and know her past. Nobody is buying it.

This wench will tell any lie if she thinks it might get her closer to the governor's office. She has an 'F' rating from the NRA on her voting record. the facts don't lie, but she does...
  • #150
    !
The NRA's ratings aren't actually based on voting record. They're a sham based primarily on whether you put an "R" or a "D" beside your name.

Your attempts at smearing the opposition is laughable. Their ratings ARE definitely based on voting record. That's why Democrat Harry Reid has a 'B' rating from the NRA; John Tester has an 'A-'; Tim Johnson has an 'A+' rating; and Max Baucus has an 'A+'... your lie has been exposed for what it is...

    Open carry should be nationwide!

We now have to defend ourselves against thugs, thieves, drug dealers, sexual assault, etc..... maybe I should've just said cops ... would've been shorter huh?=)

If you have something worth taking a really bad guy will just outright kill you if he knows you are armed. You will never even see it coming. Open carry is just for show offs. I might do it only if I were sporting one of my prettier 1911's. Other than that, it serves no purpose except a good excercise of your second ammendmant right which is a good enough reason but not really tactical for a civillian.
