David Letterman to George Burns (who had some sort of liquor in his cup and was smoking a cigar): So what are you 103 years old, what do your doctors think about the fact that you are still smoking and drinking at your age?

George Burns: "Well Dave, All my doctors died a long time ago."

Now that it is more in the open, I expect to see some of the problems that my friends in Maastricht Netherlands.(It's a town between Belgium and Germany.) The pot tourists have become a problem.

    !
@Thunderchicken Tourism is promoted by every state and region in the world, it brings revenue. Besides, folks who smoke pot have no problem finding it and doing it and I don't see anybody traveling for more than 50 miles to see what is already in their neighborhood with no cost.

Marijuana is the LEAST harmful of those substances, to the point that for most people, it is not harmful at all. Each of the others is addictive and can kill in large enough doses.
  • #133
    !
But, like alcohol, if consumed in large quantities, can impair your judgement while behind the wheel. Just like booze, if you are going to get drunk or stoned, don't be a stupid ass and get behind the wheel!
  • #184
    !
@methinks Agreed, although pot is FAR less dangerous than alcohol in the blood of a driver, since most people consistently drive much slower when on pot. However, no one should drive with ANY sort of impairment to their performance.
  • #193
    !
@methinks The difference between alcohol and marijuana is the more alcohol you drink the more drunk you get and eventually you will die from alcohol poisoning.
    Not true for weed.
"One of the safest qualities of THC, delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, the primary psychoactive substance in marijuana, is the natural limit the body places on the drug's effects."

"The conclusions of the researchers: "It would seem paradoxical that animals receiving the highest doses of cannabinoids would show the greatest and fastest return to normal levels [of behavior]; however, the receptor down-regulation in these animals was so profound that the behavioral correlate may be due to the great loss of functional binding sites." In other words, when the rats had had "enough," their receptors simply switched off. "

Sugar makes YOU fat - doesn't hurt anyone else.
Pot mellows you out and makes you stupid but rarely violent.
    Tobacco shortens YOUR life.

I voted for alcohol. Tobacco tends to kill the individual only (yeah, yeah , yeah 2nd hand smoke ain't really that big of a problem in my opinion) but alcohol had destroyed countless families and lives of people other than the drinker. Think of all of the families destroyed by drunken drivers, the abused wives and children, the lost careers, etc.

Did a surgery on a guy to take out his prostate last year, died this year never smoked a day in his life.
    It has some effect. ;)

When pot starts to flow freely you will see the true effects. I worked with guys that were pot heads they were smoking as soon as they got up in the morning. When they didn't havr any they were complete a--holes. Never had an original thought.

@LeoM Too much pot makes you stupid. I knew some pretty bright kids that used to smoke a lot of pot back in the day and turned into burn outs. But they didn't go around beating women and kids. They only hurt themselves. People should be free to make stupid decisions.

My wife saw this coming awhile ago. The next big push from the progressive establishment will be a war on sugar.
  • #13
    !
Considering that sugar is now in a whole lot of foods that would surprise you and considering our nation has a whole lot of citizens suffering from obesity related diseases, yes, there really should be an education campaign about the harm sugar can do when consumed in excess. Then you can make your own decisions about whether you want to drink six colas per day. Why wouldn't a conservative want people to be educated about their choices?
  • #18
    !
@Zazziness is all of this going to ultimately lead up to a ban of sugar? Is it going to inflate the price?
  • #25
    !
@Zazziness "Why wouldn't a conservative want people to be educated ...? " Because if they were educated they probably wouldn't be conservatives.
  • #33
    !
@Fitz If it was up to me or it comes to a vote, I would never support a ban on sugar. I would support a very strong advertising campaign that made sure people had the facts.

If anything, I'd expect the price of sugar to drop if demand went down.
  • #34
    !
@Zazziness While I agree with what you are saying the sad reality is that politicians will find some way to regulate/control sugar.

Education is a good thing. Gov't stepping in is another matter. I may be jumping the gun but i'm quite certain the Bloombergs of the world would love to control this.

I kind of agree. I developed the habit in my younger days, and I woke up coughing every morning, with chest pain. Within a month of quitting I could breathe just fine and haven't had chest pain since.

The other night on the news there was a story about how the vets are raking in the money now in Colorado because dogs are getting into the stashes or fancy brownies and getting sick. I would think if I was paying for this LUXURY, buying up tasty treats that would get me high too, that I'd surely have a better way to keep it from my animals! Damn Fools Doing That Dope! Yeah, that's a joke there, from what used to be said in the 70's ... Good Times!

So 43% think tobacco is the evil devil but Marijuana is ok?

Wow what a bunch of whimps would vote the big T just because it's the PC thing. Own up to it, smoking is SMOKING.

Tobacco kills 443,000 people per year. It's obviously the most dangerous. The leading causes of death are Tobacco, Unhealthy Diet and alcohol. In that order too.

Sugar messes up your whole metabolism.
Baby food has so much sugar in it that we are starting babies out to be sick.
Common sense, how many of you smoke, cigarrettes or pot?
There is a difference between.cigarettes and pot. Cigarettes are not just tobacco, but 200+ chemicals including, I believe cyanide.
Pot has medical use no added chemicals.
    How many drink?
Now pick up your catsup, canned fruit, bbq beans, cereal, bread, any label and you will see theres sugar added!
